Gonna be a little while until my riding season starts this year. Won't have access to the bike until mid-April, then need to get the tires changed. Might not really be riding until May.
Any rides or routes you want to do this year?

This bike was built by my roommate when I lived in Livermore Ca. Fast bike. Date on transparency sleeve is May 1983.

If I had this now, I'd start riding again.

Edit: Just talking to the guy who built this bike, he lives in Belgium now, and the fuel tank is a Kenny Roberts unit. The seat is a works ow70.

Speed_Racer

That is cleeeean. I'm liking that gold swingarm

JWC

I can't stop looking at this bike. Hadn't seen this photo since1983 probably. Glenn said this custom build cost the guy $2,000

Not gonna lie, this is the first H-D I've ever been interested in. It looks great, and early reviews seem positive. I'm curious about reliability since it's an H-D plus an all-new engine.

Was just watching some test drive videos on it.  Certainly not what I expect from H-D, and kudos to them for branching out.

That said, not sure I'd want to take a 500+ lbs, 100+ hp bike on any kind of offroad trail, particularly if there's a chance of encountering mud.  As these guys demonstrate, machines like that get to be a real handful in a hurry when the terrain is slick.  Hardpack dirt or gravel, yeah, they can be manageable.  That sort of terrain doesn't exist around here.  Any trail is likely to be wooded with soft loam and damp clay (which is like riding on grease).

Yeah size & specs wise it's similar to my Tiger, which is a lot of fun on dirt paths and washboard roads. But no fun at all in sand or mud (or so I'd imagine, pretty hard to find in UT)

Interestingly, Yamaha has killed the R6 and replaced it with the new R7, which is loosely based on the MT-07.  Interesting because it's a pretty big step down in performance (~120hp to 75).  At the same time, seems like it's a purer experience.  No nannies other than ABS.  Power is arguably more usable and accessible.  Bike is narrower and more nimble, too.  And it's a much more affordable machine.  I've felt like sportbike power was getting out of hand, particularly the middleweights, and this was driving costs up as well.  Seems like a bit of a reset, back to basics approach.  Although now there's a massive gulf between the middleweight and liter bike.

I wonder if they'll do an R9 based on the MT-09?

Would make logical sense, and be a stepping stone up to the R1.

Curious about production based race series like the Supersport class.  Death of the R6 would signal Yamaha is bowing out of series like MotoAmerica.  I don't see the R7 being competitive against 600 gixxers or CBRs without putting a lot of money into it.

Interesting, it looks like it'd be more fun on a track. it seems like the 600cc race replica category is dying out so maybe manufacturers are trying out new strategies.

The prices on the 600 supersports are damn near the same as the liter bikes.  I think a lot of riders just pony up the extra $5 a month for the bigger bike.

I'm trying to record more of my rides on scenic roads for my own records, but here's a stretch near Morgan UT aboard the Tiger.
Excuse the bugs on the lense and the windnoise - I need to pick up a windblocker for the mic.

Nice. I almost turned onto that road on Sunday, but we went out to Henefer instead. (started in Emigration Canyon)

I have to stop every ~70 miles and scrape by visor clean.

That's the same day I was out, I must have just missed you as I didn't see any MX5s that day.
It was good weather for cruising before this heat wave hit

Yes it was wonderful. My wife said it's the most fun she's had in the car since we bought it. She's finally started to "get it".

God I hope so

Would also love them to give the MT-09/XSR900 a normal frame... I hate the tall adventure bike front end

I give Kawi credit for making naked (Z series), adventure (Versys), and sport (Ninja) versions of many of their bikes.

They leverage the hell out of everything. I respect that

Time to put the 650cc parallel twin to pasture though. What a crappy engine. I mean it works but it's the kind of engine that rewards wearing earplugs.

The crossplane twins from Yamaha & Aprilia have moved the game forward in character and the Trident and Aprilia have moved the game a little forward in power. A 700cc triple would fit nicely between the 400/2 & 900/4

You passed my Uncle's place about 1/2 mile before you started your video. I have been up there many times over the years.

No way! I've probably passed it dozens of times then. I love that area, I often pass by as part of a loop from Weber Canyon -> downtown Morgan -> Emigration Canyon

Yeah, we used to get together with our cousins and play games and play in the creek that runs right along his property. I still get up there about every other year for one family function or another. It is a great area.

Haven't been on that road, just I-80 (and hwy 189 out of Provo). You guys live in a really beautiful region and even *I'd* think about owning a motorcycle if I lived there.

Highway 189 is a nice ride/drive but I liked it better when it was still 2 lanes when I first moved to Utah.

On another note, there is now a wildfire burning a short distance from the dam you see in his video. It is currently about 100 acres and 10 homes have been evacuated. It is good he rode the canyon when he did.
