Y'all live on a lake and go overseas all the time.

Spending a few $$$ on transportation isn't that big of a deal.

I think he meant sporty.

I was referring to Sporty being morbidly afraid of little things going wrong with cars but then taking huge risks with his own body.

OMFG. The ignorance!

http://www.jdpower.com/press-releases/jd-power-2018-us-vehicle-dependability-study

Actual goddam three year study. Less problems than an Acura and a non factor. 1.4 problems per car vs 1 per car for the best in the industry.

You spew brand prejudice based on literally nothing all the time!
Stop being so emotional. It's just a car brand.

2nd gen Cooper has a 1 out of 5 for reliability from Consumer Reports. 3rd gen is about a 2 out of 5. Owner satisfaction ranges from a 1 to 3 out of 5. True Delta data is a bit better but some years are randomly awful and no year is good. The cars are not reliable. You may have just got lucky or not put a ton of miles on yours. You have like 8 cars so any issues you'd face get spread out over an 8x longer time period. In that context everything is reliable.

Yes cars are emotional purchases. Nothing will piss you off faster than a car that's constantly in the shop, even if you don't have to pay for it.

And you drive a motorcycle, so your holistic perception of risk is really fucked up. ;)
The risk of motorcycles is skewed by squids and drunk helmet free cruiser douchebags. It's overblown. I'd rather ride a reliable motorcycle than depend on a MINI

Oh please. Motorcycles are 7x more fatal than cars overall. Half of those crashes are due to alcohol... I never drink and ride... down to 3.5x. Shitty/no helmets increase fatality risk by 37%... my helmet is good... down to 2.5x. Night time riding is also obviously more dangerous... I never do that either. There are cars where the fatality rates are 3-4x the average... the Z was one of them. I'm sure Miatas are well above the average rate as well. And I have ridden... and crashed... and am still here and OK. So yea, when you actually parse the data (rather than go off emotion as you have been MCM) motorcycle riding is not that dangerous unless you're an idiot. Obviously it's more dangerous than a car but that 7x shit requires context

I dunno. They might not be as reliable as other FWD economy cars but there's nothing else that drives like them.

Keep telling yourself that. Keep all your multiple delusions going nicely. I'm done.

Let's sum up so far:

"Don't buy a new MINI because it will have tons of problems and unreliability."
"My driving of a motorcycle is only slightly more dangerous than driving a car."
"I won this argument."

Carry on.

Sporty, stop ruining this thread with your shitty math.

I vote don't buy anything. Pay off student loans instead. But if you're going to buy, it's a no brainer. Civic Si for sure.

I've become so bored of modern cars I mainly care about practicality nowadays. I want a car that looks good and is spacious enough to haul all my gear around and which I can sleep in on longer trips, so my three choices are these. I've made it = an all-around useful car to me.

Turbo mod for the Sonic

The 1.4T doesn't really do all that well with more boost. Replacing the turbo is a tight fit.

Lol ask any surgical resident why they dread being put on trauma in the summer. Motorcycles are a massive part of that (and also warm weather is great for shooting people). TBH before I came here I was hell bent on getting a bike- no longer.

Warm weather is great for a lot of things... frisbee, swimming at the lake.. but I've never felt the urge to kill.

Yeah, but how many involved drinking or being a squid? Sporty was correct about the statistics improving dramatically when you take those factors out.

Winter is more likely to make me wanna kill people. Especially trying to commute while it's snowing. My 50 minute commute stretches to almost 2 hours when that's the case (like this morning)

I want a motorcycle badly but my girl will stab me in the face if I get one. She reads tons of accident scans. I think she's already convinced on a 4-wheeler "to get around the island," and I'm trying to decide whether I can parlay the dangers of 4-wheelers into me getting a bike or if it'll scare her away from everything.
