GM is bombing its own ship

Then maybe it's more like restocking the kitchen on the USS Maine with delicious local Cuban foods.

But it must surely rev very high, then, so that it can produce enough horsepower to move all that weight.

Oh wait

It's probably just super sl0w.

It is an ancient, pooprod AMC tractor engine. It moves the vehicle.

The general idea of naming the models based on torque or HP isn't terrible given the current market conditions. BMW's numbers no longer mean anything since displacement no longer correlates with power/trim level in their lineup. I assume they went with Nm due to the better number scale, but it definitely doesn't mean as much to us Americans. That's the big mistake.

It's just a number to slap on the back to indicate relative power throughout their lineup. Don't see the big deal; zee Germans do it.

That's called baffle 'em with bullshit. It's a common auto repair procedure. (I don't use it)  ;)

You know who else only publishes/advertises the torque of their engines?  Harley Davidson.

Briggs & Stratton.
Lawnmowers have gone from horsepower to torqure. I got a new 4.5 mower! It's way more powerful than my old 3.5!

As the auto journo everyone loves to hate said, they might as well skip the niceties and make the model some permutation of the car's MSRP.

For shits and giggles, apply the transaction prices after each owner. The last one would be "$237.46/mo BHPH"

I like something like a torque rating, or power rating better then a displacement statement, which for many modern cars, and most certainly for E-cars ir irrelevant.

It makes logical sense; especially when last year's 6 liter might be outperformed by next year's 2.5.

I dunno, focusing on torque specifically just reeks of stat cherrypicking. If we're moving from displacement to another stat, then power is the next logical step.

Seems with a lot of these turbo motors, the torque numbers vary pretty significantly between trims but the power, not so much.  There are numerous tunes for the Ford Ecoboost motors, but most of them simply add a bunch more mid-range torque (and power) but don't raise the peak power by all that much.

Stan The Robot Will Park Your Car For You At France's Lyon Airport

If a technology by a company called Stanley Robotics takes off, you may never have to worry about airport parking lots again.

What the company has done is developed an outdoor automated robotic valet system and recently introduced it for the first time at the Lyon-Saint-Exupéry airport in France.

The valet system revolves around a unique robot dubbed 'Stan'. The robot features a large bed that stretches out from the front, slides beneath a vehicle and lifts it off the ground. It then moves the vehicle into a free parking space.

To use the robotic valet system, users simply drive their vehicle into a dedicated cabin, make a parking reservation and leave their vehicle. Stan will then arrive and whisk away the car to an appropriate parking space. The system will park the car depending on how long it needs to be stored there. For example, if a user needs their car parked for a few months, Stan will take it to the corner of the parking lot and park other cars that will leave earlier much closer.

For added convenience, Stan will make your vehicle accessible shortly before your flight lands at the airport.

As part of the roll-out in Lyon, Stanley Robotics will have 500 parking spaces it can use and will deploy four robots, which will continually shuffle around vehicles. There are plans in place to expand the system in Lyon to 6,000 spaces.

In January, it was announced that London's Gatwick airport would soon start experimenting with the same parking system.

This seems pretty cool.  When I park at JFK long term parking, it sometimes takes a while to find an open spot and it's a long walk or shuttle ride to the terminal.  More and more though I go to a private company lot, which then shuttles me to the terminal and picks me up from the airport when I get back with my car ready for me in the private company parking lot.  Usually a few bucks cheaper per day than the airport lot.  I don't know if this robot parking thing, while very cool, will actually work in many places.  They seem slow.  A valet could get the car much faster in a typical parking garage.  And in sporting events or concerts where everyone enters and leaves at about the same time, they would be a disaster.  But a giant parking lot in a small airport could work.  At a busy airport hub serving hundreds of thousands of passengers a day, forget about it.

IME, this is the way to go.  They shuttle you from your vehicle right to the front door of the airport and shuttle you right back to your vehicle when you return.

In Atlanta, the on-site parking is close enough to the terminal that I prefer it over the private lots. But it's also more expensive, so I only used it when I was travelling for work.
