It's only a few hundred dollars more than a 1200 Sportster and significantly more powerful.

Looking at the HD:Ca site now and the cheapest HD (the 883 Superlow) is over $10K. The Scout is an 1100, so it really competes more closely to the 1200 Sporty, which starts at $13K. And the Scout has triple digit horsepower to the big Sporty's ~68 ponies.

I was thinking it compared to the 883, several at the dealer here in the $8-9k range. Big poster on the wall "Sportster... starting at $8499". Compared to the 1200 it looks much better, but even though the bigger bikes are obviously Indians, this one, while decent looking, is obviously to me a Polaris design. Not digging the V-twin design or the oversized radiator. Don't hate it, but not loving it either.
Well, it's also not a Harley Davidson, which is a huge plus.

Sport bike cornering capability? Not even close. 31 degrees of lean angle is a lot for a cruiser, but not even close to even a humble sportbike. A non-repliracer "sport bike" like mine generally has little trouble laying over 45+ degrees without dragging metal. Repliracers can lean upwards of 60 degrees before they start throwing sparks (assuming the tires hang on).
I will give you that it's pretty quick. Certainly quicker than entry level sport bikes and a match for most entry middle weights (Ninja 650, SV650, CBR500, CBR650, FZ6R).
I found out that my Ninja500 could easily lean a full 90-degrees.
