Title: Tatra 603 promo
Post by: Mustangfan2003 on April 06, 2014, 10:09:18 PM
I thought this was pretty neat.  Not sure why they are running from the police, hoping to escape communist Czechoslovakia?  They are still in business making trucks these days but sadly I don't think they've built a car since the early 90s

Šťastnou cestu (Happy journey) Tatra 603 - FULL VERSION (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uR6-ReQR45E#)

The T700 was Tatra's last passenger car model, production of which ended in 1999.

BTW, the Lane Motor Museum in Nashville has the largest Tatra collection in the western hemisphere.

Well I thought it was sometime in the 90s.  I have been to the Lane Museum before.  Very cool and weird collection.  I figured this thread would get more of a response with this crowd.  I thought you guys jizz all over the place for cars like this.

I've seen this video before.  It's beautifully filmed in a way you just don't see anymore.  The funny thing is I really don't understand why it was made in the first place.  After all, the only people who could afford to buy a Tatra in Communist Czechoslovakia were members of the elite class and even they didn't have a lot of choice when it came to cars.  Anything from the decadent capitalist west was off limits, so that meant you could either have the Tatra, an East German Wartburg or some Russian clunker like a Lada, GAZ/Volga or Moskvitch.  It was a "Captive Market" in more ways than one!

I guess they wanted the west to see it and things were all peachy in the eastern bloc.

My English Lit teacher at school was a Communist: he had a Wartburg Knight. If you wanted to know where he was, you just looked for the plume of blue smoke and followed it to the source.

Shouldn't he have been teaching Lenin and Marx?

English lit will give plenty of opportunities for him to advance his worldview. My english lit professor was a radical feminist who claimed Ophelia was the main character in Hamlet.
