Title: 2024 Mercedes Benz CLE Coupe
Post by: Madman on February 06, 2024, 07:41:29 PM

Nice to see Mercedes Benz still offering a coupe in a world increasingly dominated by SUVs.

Mercedes has consolidated it's coupe offerings, replacing both the previous C Class and E Class coupes with the new CLE Class Coupe.  I think it looks gorgeous and it proves modern cars do not have to be ugly.  Are you listening, BMW?

I agree it looks great on the outside. Great empty nester cruiser.

Mercedes doesn't have a single pillar-less coupe in its lineup.  For shame.

Blame side impact crash regulations.  Personally, I'd rather have a B-pillar there to absorb a side impact, despite the aesthetics.

I find it hard to tell if there's no B pillar on a coupe if both the rear and front side windows are up which is mostly going to be the case when the car is parked anywhere outside your garage.

Both front and rear side windows down, I agree no B pillar on a coupe looks much better.

Merc was one of the very few automakers consistently making them - Rolls Royce and Bentley were the others.

But I guess a lot of it comes down to sales - Up until recently Mercedes had the AMG GTC, C, E and S coupes.  I see quite a few E and C coupes driving around so sales must have been pretty good...

It looks nice overall, but that back end is still a little wonky. Benz has a lot of droopy butt syndrome for the last 10-15 years, this isn't as droopy, but something is a bit off about it.

My favorite Mercedes coupe is the SUV AMG GLE Coupe. It's so wasteful yet awesome looking to me.DEC858FD-E620-4429-BB06-05A90FE265BB.jpg

Really? I saw one on the road the other day and I thought "Oh hey, it's like the Mercedes version of a Nissan Juke".

The Juke's front looked like a shrunken version of the Aztek. Not good. The top half of the front design and bottom half of the front design seemed to belong to two different cars.

The Mercedes SUV coupe doesn't have that. It looks like a thicker taller normal sized coupe. Extravagant and wasteful :)

I'd agree the front is the car's best feature, but everything else makes me hate it. I mean, the SUV coupe is by far the least attractive vehicle class in my personal opinion (I mean, I may never want to be in a  pickup truck or minivan, but at least they're mostly fit for purpose and that drives their looks), and this just seems to get everything wrong. It's the unhappy medium of everything it's trying to be; it looks too low and too high, it's both too short and too long, it's stubby and overly smooth, like a worn bar of soap. We may be in the first post-attractive car design era, but these SUV coupes are egregious offenders to visioned.

No one likes a fat ass.  It's offensive to the eye.
