It is also gone. In retrospect it might have been better to have made the Golf 4 doors from the start, and have the Scirocco handle the 2 door market.

I was always confused why both the Scirocco and 2 door GTI existed.

Same with the Mercedes A-class sedan and CLA today.

Because the Scirocco was an afterthought. The Golf it was based on was first sold in 2003. The Scirocco didn't come out til 2008.
