Title: Hyundai Palisade
Post by: 68_427 on November 12, 2018, 04:45:22 PM
Just a picture for now.  Presumably on the same platform as the Kia Telluride

Acadia, Pilot, Ascent, Highlander.....

This car is FWD, unibody, and is only marginally larger than the old Santa Fe XL.

The new Santa Fe is 5-pass only.

Why would they name a vehicle a fence?

Not very inspiring.

I think they meant "palisades" which is a line of cliffs in New Jersey- or if they were being pretentious, after the Pacific Palisades neighborhood in LA

Stockade maybe?  When you're inside, it like being in a fort.

Almost definitely after the mountains in the Sierras.

The top picture isn't so bad.  It's a crowded segment now with a lot of good offerings.  Looks more upscale, manly, and overall better than the Highlander or Pilot just based on this one picture.  Big shiny grills are all the rage now anyways.  I think it'll sell well.  2nd from top picture is atrocious.  What is that?

Heh - I didn't even look at the pictures closely enough to notice how different they are.

I think the bottom one is just a Kia Telluride?

What is a Telluride?

City in SW Colorado with a very well-reviewed ski resort (though I've yet to go there personally).

It's more a matter of flow.  Kia Sedona is a nice name, it flows off the tongue.  Kia Telluride is hard to say even in your head.  Are all the good names already taken?  Kia Salida would be a nice name or even Kia Ouray, if they want to stick to Colorado.

Maybe it's just because I'm already familiar with the place and have said the word many times in normal conversation, but I don't have any issues with it.

But people can't even decide on what the correct pronunciation of Salida is (it should be sa-LEE-duh because it's originally a Spanish word, but locals insist that it's suh-LIE-duh), and no one pronounces "Ouray" correctly the first time (it's YER-ray). Hell, I still usually can't remember how to pronounce it correctly.

So how do you even pronounce Telluride?  Is it TELL-u-ride or Tel-lur-ide?

I think "TELL-you-ride", though some people kinda slur the R onto both syllables - "TELL-yer-ride". Definitely not tel-lur-ide.

https://www.motortrend.com/cars/kia/telluride/2020/2020-kia-telluride-first-drive-review/

I like this.  It's a bit larger than the Hyundai version (Palisade). Not a huge fan of the grill but the side profile and rear are good.  Also the first drive comments from Motor Trend are good.  Suspension/ride seem fine which was a Hyundai/Kia weakness. Decent (not great) 3rd row and good room behind the third row which is where a lot of these 3 row SUVs fail (Mazda). Not a great AWD system but it'll get you out of a snow covered parking lot or up a steep hill covered with a few inches of snow which is what's needed. Great price and great warranty.

Out of all of these 3 row SUVs in this price range I think I'll like this and the VW Atlas the best.  VW Atlas also has a real good warranty (for VW) being 6 yr/72,000 miles and I think the VW looks better. VWs are more expensive to service and repair and after the warranty are more likely to give trouble I think.

https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/comparison-test/a29516727/new-3-row-suvs-compared/

These two new Koreans are kicking the competition's ass.  Every comparison I've seen of them places them 1st.  They're slightly cheaper, have a really nice interiors, and the V6 engine is smooth.  I had really high hopes for the Ford Explorer and I'm sure it's a fine SUV, but, the Hyundai/Kia is just great.  I think in a year or two I'm going to get one.  At the last autoshow in NYC, I was really impressed with them.  The USB ports on the seat backs of the front seats was a very good idea.  Lots of crowds around them.

I'm a fan of the Telluride on paper... Might have to check one out when it's jeep replacement time.

The Hyundai is just ugly
