Question:
Assuming money is no object....
Option 1: 911 R
votes: 2
Option 2: Turbo S
votes: 5
Option 3: Mugen Civic RR
votes: 2
Someone said they'd want a Turbo S for a daily if they won the lotto. I thought that was a really weird choice.
Bra. You couldn't even daily drive a 350Z. Stop acting like you're some hard ass that'd daily drive a car without AC or a radio.
911R can be equipped with A/C and a radio though. FAIL. (http://cc.porsche.com/icc_pcna/ccCall.do?rt=1469473655&screen=1600x900&userID=USM&lang=us&PARAM=parameter_internet_us&ORDERTYPE=991880&MODELYEAR=2016&hookURL=http%3a%2f%2fwww.porsche.com%2fusa%2fmodelstart%2f)
And if I won the lottery I wouldn't be commuting 500 miles a week. Z was great when I was working from home. You might as well say 'I would go with the Turbo S cause it has better gas mileage'. If you won the lotto what does that shit matter?
You get an A for effort but maybe next time! Don't take it so personally!

Where?
Quote from: MrH on July 25, 2016, 12:22:49 PM
Yeah, the Turbo S continues to get more and more absurd. IMO, it's the perfect daily driver. If I won the lottery, that's what I'd daily.
BTW Mr H this was not meant as a call out, I just thought that was really interesting. Calm down
For me, 911 R no question. Like I said the Z was pretty good before I started to have to commute with it. I think that was the turning point. If I won the lotto I wouldn't work so a hardcore sports car for a daily would work for sure.
If I won the lottery, give me an all weather capable weapon that doesn't beat me up. I'd have plenty of money for track toys too (BAC mono, GT3 RS, etc), but I wouldn't daily drive those in snowy Ohio.
You would stay in snowy Ohio if you won the lottery? I thought we were talking dazzleman FU money here.
He could buy the state for lotto money

911R. Because 3 pedals.
Give me one without A/C or radio either. That shit is useless in California (where I'm obviously going to stay if I win the lottery).
I wouldn't daily either down here because both our to exotic. If I was offered a 911R at MSRP I'd pick that.
But I totally agree with Mike that the Turbo S is the much better daily.

Just noticed Civic is an option in the poll. Given that this thread was started by Sporty, definitely that all the way.

Lotto money = you will probably need new friends, and redefined relationships with a lot of family. Plus lotto money = no need for a home base anyway. 2% a year of a couple million dollars = me n' wifey will be luxury nomads, with me hitting up tracks on various cars & bikes around the world. "Jeeves, send the Exige V6 and RC213-S to Suzuka in two weeks :golfclap:" So in a way to me the concept of a lotto money daily driver doesn't make sense.... hundreds of millions of dollars in the bank, why limit myself to one car, one house, one location etc.? Dream bigger ;)
But for the sake of the thread, between these two, I would prefer to jump in the 911 R for a milk run. Naturally it would be up at our summer house on a mountain. Launch control, vacuum cleaner induction noises and foul weather traction don't hold a candle to nailing 8800 RPM downshifts echoing off of rock walls  If I had lotto $$$ I would never experience a nasty cold up north winter again.....

Why not add the 991.2 GT3? Less limited than the R but will have three pedals.

I've been all up and down that state (well, to an extent). I can't remember a single time I wasn't using AC. If it gets over 70, the AC gets turned on.
And I like music when I drive, so some sort of music system is necessary.

It's psychosomatic.
Modern cars will shut the AC off when you go full throttle anyway to give you max power. Never really felt it in my old Mustang, nor my new one, but I do notice a drop in fuel economy when using it. Definitely felt it in my lower powered cars (Nissan, Mazda, and VW), plus fuel economy penalty.
I think it's more heat soak than anything. Z felt like it lost 20-30HP in the summer even with the A/C off or at WOT.

If you can feel the A/C power drain then something is wrong with those horses. I feel zero difference in my cars. Last time I felt a difference was in my '99 Plymouth Breeze.

I'm a little flabbergasted. Family and friends are important. But not enough to stay in Ohio if I have a choice  I communicate with my mom regularly via cell phone... I think Mr H has one, I have seen him in the cell phone thread.
This might warrant another thread
My best friends are mostly all in the area. Family is here too. I'd probably split time between Ohio and a beach somewhere
But I wouldn't just abandon this place. What's life without your friends and family?
Like I said I still keep in touch with my mom. But my dad and I have only just become amicable again after a few years of beefing. And shit is still touch and go. Haven't seen him since my wedding in 2012. Friends come and go too. I have some true blue lifelong best friends, but they are all over the country. And friends from the neighborhood I grew up in mostly aren't doing shit so I don't keep up with them. Sad truth is most friendships hinge heavily on convenience. I can count the # of people I truly consider my friends on one hand, and that's including my wife. But I have dozens if not hundreds of "acquaintances".
It's 2016.... strong relationships are portable. Life is too short to win the lotto and stay in Ohio
Sorry you don't have any friends

I don't listen to opinions about Ohio from people who have never been here. I was just driving through Cincy yesterday and found some cool houses in a really cool neighborhood. Generally speaking, people who move from one place to somewhere else do so because they didn't like living where they left from. Doesn't make where they left from a bad place, just not the right place for them. My dad, after spending his entire life in upstate NY, moved to Florida a few years back and loves it. All I hear is how great his little town down there is and how all of his friends down there are people who moved from the Rust belt like him and they also love it and would never go back. You couldn't pay me to live in Florida. Not that upstate NY is the greatest place on the planet, or that I'd stick around if I landed a big jackpot, but I'd absolutely live up here over Florida if those were my two choices. Different strokes for different folks.

The eastern portion of both states are on the west end of the Appalachians (mountains and foothills). Probably accounts for about 20-25% of Kentucky and 25-30% of Ohio. Hocking Hills in Ohio is where some of the car mags based in the midwest (like C&D) go to do road testing because you get winding, hilly roads and it's fairly scenic for photo shoots.
If you turn left out of my neighborhood, you are on a twisty road.
The variety of amateur racing/autox events within driving distance is also higher here than most anywhere else. I love the LA car scene but you have to deal with traffic and other than San Diego, it's a pretty long drive to go to an event in another city. That's why I'd only have a vacation home there - go to some of the big events each year but have a home base further east where land is cheap and I can hit some of the other awesome events.
Yea I would avoid LA at all costs. You can't get the PCH anywhere else, but there are equally great roads elsewhere in the country. Anywhere there are mountains there will be good roads.

It's poor form to comment on the size of another man's pong.

If I won the lottery, I'd move to different parts of the world every few years. Not necessarily because I don't like where I am, but rather because life is short and I'd like to experience the world. Not just go see the sites for a couple of weeks, I'd like to experience what it really feels like to live there.
Some places I'd like to try:
- Kalifornia
- Boston
- London
- Paris
- Spain
- Somewhere in the Mediterranean
- Japan
- South American (although I dunno about that...I want to live for a while with my money instead of getting murdered)
- Somewhere nice in India, if that's even a thing
- Australia
- New Zealand
- Somewhere in Africa although I'm not sure where
Once I exhaust the places I want to try, I'll probably be at the age where I want to have a more permanent home location. Then I'll settle down there.
I would stay in Philadelphia, but I'd definitely travel a lot.

Y'all just don't know about the secret techniques
If I had to pick a home base I sincerely doubt it would be in the US. French countryside, Cayman islands, maybe even Ghana. Only upsides to the US are the opportunities to make money and the quality of healthcare. Winning the lotto makes those advantages irrelevant.

He's the Ichiro Suzuki of ping pong. His form is all wrong, but his results can't be denied.

You can become famous by being the first legitimate person to want to wire transfer a large sum of money from Africa elsewhere
Late to the thread, but I chose Turbo S.
That being said, even if I was a billionaire I think I'd probably just get a Porsche 911 Carrera 4s (assuming it still comes it a manual). Nice all weather capability in a fun package. :ohyeah:

And two, there's a lot more to the US than just that.

What's insane about it is that I said it. Why would anyone possibly want to live anywhere but Ohio? Insanity indeed.

Again,
if one won the lotto, one wouldn't need to make money, or live in the US to make their nest egg grow.
2,
if one won the lotto, they could just come back to the US for any emergency shit, and with that money could live a healthy stress-free lifestyle that would diminish the need of constant medical care in the first place, at least until very old age.
Very radical concepts for you, I know. I will go slower next time.

Some (although not a lot) of time in Other Countries has convinced me that the US has a lot more to offer than that, and I don't even know where to start, but the phrase "human rights"'comes to mind very quickly.
It depends a lot on the country in question. Winning the lottery enables the luxury of choice that would make such distinctions irrelevant. Nobody here would take their multi millions and move to Syria.
And I have spent multiple months at a time out of the country. I'm wondering if Mr. H has spent more than a week at a time out of Ohio

It does give you the luxury of choosing which country your money would support.

I'd probably buy residences in London and Paris, depending on the size of the lottery. If it's one of those pathetic $40m lotteries, I might just have to be satisfied with paying off my student loans, credit cards, and maybe buying a soda.
I grew up in California. Lived in Detroit for 3-4 months. Traveled a ton for work and pleasure. Been through a good portion of Europe, been to Germany 5 or 6 times, and lived there for a summer. I've seen plenty to know that I have it pretty good in Ohio.

London, yes. Paris probably not. Nice maybe, but more likely something a little less crowded. Honfleur maybe.
Yea, I would not want to set up shop in any big city again. If I did England or France it would be in the countryside, and even then only for a couple weeks out of the year as their weather is so shitty.

Cities are cool in limited doses. I'd keep an apartment in London perhaps. Go see the cool shows there whenever. Fly in for bangers and mash. Have a tailor I know by first name only.
But I couldn't live there forever.

AC is, yes. Radio is useless everywhere.
Get Pandora or Spotify you dirty peasant.
You could conceivably die of heatstroke driving through Death Valley without AC on a hot day. That's why it has such a cheerful name.
