2020 BMW X5 And X7 M50i Announced With 523 HP

We're anxiously awaiting the unveiling of the 2020 X5 M but, in the meantime, BMW is placating fans with the new X5 M50i.

Set to go into production this fall, the high-performance model has a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine that produces 523 hp (390 kW / 530 PS) and 553 lb-ft (749 Nm) of torque. This means X5 M50i has 67 hp (50 kW / 68 PS) and 74 lb-ft (100 Nm) of torque more than the X5 xDrive50i.

The engine is connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system with an M Sport rear differential. This enables the model to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in just 4.1 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 130 mph (209 km/h) with all-season tires, but that number climbs to 155 mph (250 km/h) with summer performance tires.

BMW will also offer an X7 M50i. The model uses the same powertrain as the X5 M50i, but it's a tad slower as the dash from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) takes 4.5 seconds. Despite this, the top speeds remained unchanged at 130 mph (209 km/h) and 155 mph (250 km/h).

Besides the high-performance engine, the new M variants have a specially tuned suspension with new spring and damper settings. The X5 M50i features an Adaptive M Suspension, while the larger X7 M50i has a two-axle air suspension.

On the styling front, the crossovers have been equipped with a new front bumper that features larger air intakes to improve cooling. Designers also installed a sportier rear bumper, new rocker panels and cerium grey accents. Other highlights include shadowline trim and an M Sport exhaust system.

In the United States, the X5 M50i will have 20-inch lightweight alloy wheels with a bi-color finish. Likewise, the X7 M50i has 22-inch lightweight alloy wheels with a cerium grey finish. Both are backed up by an M Sport braking system with blue calipers and M logos.

Interior changes are minor, but drivers will find an M leather steering wheel, an M-branded shifter and illuminated door sill plates with "M50i" logos. Other highlights include perforated leather seats with contrast stitching and an Anthracite (X5 M50i) or Alcantara Anthracite (X7 M50i) headliner.

Pricing starts at $82,150 for the X5 M50i and $99,600 for the X7 M50i (excluding a $995 destination fee).

I know it's pointless... but the few times I drove an X5M I absolutely loved it.  Not sure this really makes sense though price wise

Sure it makes sense. $82,000 financed for 84 months is only $1000/month.
