Lets get this goin and lets been honest...no fudging numbers here....
i'll start...the fastest i've gone is 100 MPH im my moms truck...stupid govener..that V8 has got a lot more in it with the current gearing
and ~115 MPH i say ~ because it was a bumpy road and i was tryin to keep it straite...thats my best guess..i think its chipped at 120 anyway

Yea, its a 1984 BMW 318i. But I have never driven that fast in it, and its been sitting at my relatives house undriven for a year or two. I hope to soon get it running again. I belive the top speed on it is 126 mph or something like that.
The fastest I did was 110 in my dad's rental Intrepid. Very dumb too because it was illegal for me to drive that car in the first place because I was 17 at the time. But on stretches of I-5 between LA and San Francisco it's very easy to reach triple digits.
85 on the freeway, I think.

Probably about 85.
155 mph, driving my friend's (chipped) 944 turbo.
Over 100 mph on a snowmobile, but i guess that doesn't count.

Fastest I've gone so far was on the 101 between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara going 120mph in my 1994 Integra back in college. I was following 3 previous gen Mustang GTs going probably 130+ since they were pulling from me. That trip of almost 120miles took me about 1 hr 20 mins that day. B) :D

Some roads in America, like I-80, or something, which are four lanes at times, shouldnt be restricted to 55-mph.

140 on the autobahn a couple years back in an A6 Avant 2.5 L Turbodiesel. She was screaming with engine roar and wind noise. Did 130 in 1988 on Autobahn A8 near Heidelberg in an Audi 100. Pretty consistenly drive 100 - 110 over there in normal traffic. You get used to it -but it's always a thrill! (Especially when a seriously modded 911 or S-Class steams past you like you're standing still!)
Over here, I seldom pass 100, and have only maxed the A6 out at 110 on verrrryy desolate stretches of highway up north. I find that in the last few years, it's typical to be cruising in a line of traffic on a 6 lane and everyone is doing 80 -85 in the left lane.

yea...my dads car needs a couple miles to get to 120...it hasnt hit it yet...but it will...(stupid V6...hardly any torque in the top end)
Around 155 in my ex-99 Mustang GT. Thank god there weren't any cops around that day! I swore to myself that would be the first and last time I'd drive that fast on a public road. I have to say I was impressed with the stability of the car at those speeds. :D
Four Wheels: 90 (freeway)
Two Wheels: 45-50 (pedal bike on 1/2 mile decsent)
I've been 140 in my 9-3 on the interstate in WV. That's as fast as I have been though.
120-130 in a couple different vehicles.
About 140MPH in the Galant on I-35 in Texas at about 3:00AM...close to the OK border...that ol' car was geared for high speeds, apparently, because, even though it was hurting at ~130MPH, it still pulled, very slowly, to about 140MPH (though speedo error is a probability at that high of a speed... )
About 135MPH in my current ride on HWY63 north of I-70 in Missouri at about 3:00AM as well...
Both times, I didn't see a single other car on the road, hence the zanyiness...

My top speed was a hair over 100 mph in my Bimmer.
My ideal highway speed is 85 mph under perfect conditions, and I almost never go above that. Under less than ideal conditions, I'll drop it down as low as 70 mph, but I unless traffic is really heavy or conditions bad, I feel as if I'm crawling if I'm not over 70 mph. My average highway speed is 75-80 mph.
I enjoyed breaking into triple digits but wouldn't do it too often because (a) I don't feel comfortable at that speed; I don't think I'm trained well enough to handle any type of emergency at that speed (like a blowout); and (B) I don't want to get busted at that speed. As non-chalant as I am about getting tickets, I don't want to get hauled away in 'cuffs. That would definitely ruin my weekend.

If you have the time (and money ) you should maybe go to a Bimmer driving school where they teach you techniques. its really expensive though. (*5000 for a day or something).
180kph (112mph) in my car, it had alot more left in her but I didn't want to blow by a van at that speed (divided 2 lane highway). Very stable, I was quite impressed.
I tried a few times since that to go faster, but mechanical issues have prevented me from doing so (engine has some serious issues now - I guess those were the warning signs).

I've taken my Maxima up to 110. I didnt go any higher because the tires are only rated for 118. Nissan didnt put any kind of limiter on the 3rd gen Maxima so it should do over 130 mph.

I'd like to go to that driving school. I think it's in South Carolina. But it's not really a high priority, either in terms of time or money, so I doubt I'll ever do it. And I'll never get much of an opportunity to use the skills, since the roads around me don't afford much of an opportunity to drive with any degree of safety at really high speed. I'd then have to rent time at a racetrack to use the skills, and I don't have the time or money for that.
who knows you might end up autocrossin it once in a while...if you went to a drivin school...then you could at least hang with the veterans...plus it could help you avoid an accident since you will be familar with your vehicals limits...

Seriously though, I would be very apprehensive going that speed with only two lanes. There is no room for error whatsoever.
Here in the U.P. our widest roads are 4-lane highways...so I'm stuck. But I'm sure I won't be trying any top speeding in the Explorer...the speedo only goes to 85 for Pete's sake.

Fastest I have been was 125 mph in my previous car, a BMW Z3. It was "rev limited" because I was in the top gear and at redline. Power felt like I could still accelerate, but I didn't want to blow the engine.
I have been up to ~110mph (180kph) in my A4, but only once late at night. There just isn't the room to drive up here like there was in South Jersey, nor are the roads here in as good shape.

It was pretty scary, but it was more of a rush of adrenaline than fear. The feeling of speed overtakes the feeling of fear at that point on a bike, and it's freakin' awesome.

In October of 1986, Road & Track did a comparo between the 1987 IROC-Z with a 350, automatic and 3.23:1 gears vs. a 1987 Mustang GT hatch with a manual and 3.08:1 gears. The cars were basically dead even, but the Camaro reached 149.20 mph on a proving ground, whereas the Mustang did 148.10. The Ford engineer told the driver to keep the Mustang in 4th, because the car didn't have the power to wind out the tall overdrive. About 100 yards from the speed reader, the Mustang blew its' engine from going 5900 RPM too long, and that would have put it north of 150 mph. I have put a better gear in my car, so theoretically I should be able to hit the same speed, or maybe better. One person on StangNet has done over 145 on a highway, and the person driving behind him said the bumper was ready to fall off.
QuoteIn October of 1986, Road & Track did a comparo between the 1987 IROC-Z with a 350, automatic and 3.23:1 gears vs. a 1987 Mustang GT hatch with a manual and 3.08:1 gears. The cars were basically dead even, but the Camaro reached 149.20 mph on a proving ground, whereas the Mustang did 148.10. The Ford engineer told the driver to keep the Mustang in 4th, because the car didn't have the power to wind out the tall overdrive. sounds like he should've had an overdrive gear that the car could pull....

About 122 mph in a base Volvo S60 on I-95 in MA. I would have kept going but I was redlining pretty badly so I decided to stop before my engine blew out.

Not blowing your engine was probably a smart idea...
Welcome to CarSPIN :) B)
The base S60 can only go about 120? According to the owner's manual for my 850, it can go up to 141.
Me and my friend went 38 down a city street the other day on our mountain bikes...we were passing cars through the intersection...I felt like a guy on a crotch rocket.
Fastest for me was 126 or so in a V-50 T5. It's governed to 130 but I had to slow down for a curve (and an upset wife ^_^ ).

How are you liking the V50?
I have hit 139 in my accord.
This is kinda off-topic but how fast do you think Lance Armstrong hits on his bike?

I've personally clocked him at 249. He also raced an Enzo 0-60 and beat it! He lost 2 out of 3 to the fighter jet though.

I've only gone about 95mph, but that will all change once we get the 'vette running. :)

It's a 1977. It's mine and my dads project car. Father son bonding kind of thing.

You have to post pics! :)
I am thinking of buying one also when I have saved up some money.

Cool indeed. :P
About the engine, I'm not too shure, it didnt have one when we got it, but we have a small block 350 amd a 4 speed manual to go in it, just have to find some time to do it.
We got a really good deal on the car also, $1000 canadian and practacly everything is still good, paint, interior, frame, all fine.
And i don't have any pics right now, but i'll make shure to post some tonight when my dad gets home.

It's not like, it's love. :D Although I don't have much to go off of. But it's quick, powerful and handles well. The interior is awesome too.

i'm not sure that those speeds are safe anywhere but, i wasn't nery smart when i did it, it was a long strech of highway that was under construction. there was cement barriers on both sides so there was no where for cops, and they hadn't been working on it for a couple of days so i went for it. My car was still pulling too, it still bugs me though i want to know just how fast it will go.

The fastest I've ever driven was coming back from Chicago to the suburbs on I-55 at about 1 in the morning and the Maxima got to about 115 and I decided to call it quits. It's not built for those kinda speeds even thought the engine had some juice left in it.
Fastest I've ever ridden in is in my friends modded WRX. It puts about 310ish HP to the wheels. Everything is upgradeed under the hood. Still loks pretty stock besides SSR wheels and a coilover. We got to about 135 on the same highway late at night coming back from Hot Import Nights. We were pretty stoked that we were going that fast. We here this high pitch whine approaching form the back of us and all of a sudden a huge bike gang blew past us goin easily past 160. It was really scary cuz if we slowed down we would have crashed and had more than one biker plastered on the rear bumper. Those guys are freaks to be going that fast with no protection except a little helmet, and sometimes not even that. :o
Nice, Wolf...and yeah...some of those bikers are nut jobs.

A base volvo only has 168 hp and weighs about 3200 lbs. I think the car has a top speed of about 130 mph but since I was in redline I decided to slow down
155 on several occasions (the speed limiter worked).
For the safety hens clucking out there, this was done on assorted stretches of straight, flat desert road in the Southwest (SoCal, Arizona, & Nevada), with miles of visibility and no traffic.

In 93 I bought a 76 Trans Am from a friend. This car was totally worked with a little over 500 hp out of a BB 400 tricked turbo400 tranny and 2.73 rear which is really high gearing. I lived in Ft. Myers Fl at the time and one night (early a.m.) about 3am I decided to go out on a long and deserted stretch of Summerlin Blvd.
A divided (by grass) 4 lane highway and see what she could do! Turns out she could do alot!!! Speedometer topped out at 150 and the car was still pulling strongly beyond that. In fact I would'nt bring it to the limit but i speculate that I had it up to about 170 easy. unfortunately, before i could do anything about it or really even attempt to signifigantly slow down, I did come up on a couple cars in the slow lane. Thank God they did'nt come into my lane or death would have occurred! I was 18 and stupid
I do have the tendency though to top out what ever cars I own at some point or another
My 86 Fiero GT had an electronic limiter that would'nt allow it over 125
Had my 97 Legacy up to 118 on the Lynnway between revere and Lynn Ma. a couple years ago about 2 am
My 93 Altima did 120 on that same strech before that
Maybe 90 mph. I'm not really into straight line speed. I like blitzing twisty backroads.
1985 Mercedes 300SE = 225 km/h (141 mph) That was the cars top speed...
1989 Mercedes 500SL = 240 km/h (150 mph) Traffic conditions didn't permit a higher speed. My dad had the limiter removed and maxed it out at 270 km/h (168 mph) once though on a Sunday morning at 3:00 AM!
2002 Mercedes E320 = 230 km/h (144 mph) Again, damn traffic!
2002 Mercedes S320 = 220 km/h (138 mph) I could have gone faster, but I didn't feel like pushing it for some reason. I did ride in the same car with Mr. Schultz once and he maxed it out at 240 km/h (150 mph).
2005 Mercedes C200 Kompressor = 210 km/h (131 mph) It could go faster, but the light C200K didn't feel as stable at higher speeds than a C350 or C55 AMG would.
2006 Mercedes SLK350 7Gtronic = 235 km/h (147 mph) The steering on this car was so precise and responsive, that you really have to concentrate hard when driving the car at higher speeds. I got scared and slowed down. 235 km/h was the max I brought it up to.
I also drove a Volkswagen Golf 100-hp TDI on the Autobahn once during driving school. 180 km/h was the max. speed I was able to manage since the thing was shaking at 120 km/h already! 180 km/h = 113 mph.

Hey Mike welcome to the forum. Hasn't the Lynnway claimed a few lives over the years?
had my new Viggen up to 115 or so then didn't want a ticket, had my 97' 900 turbo at 130.
Guy that sold me the Viggen said he had it on a race track and got it to 140 before he hit turn #1. Said there was still room left to go.
I took a rental Impala up to 97 mph before it ran out of steam.
I really didn't like that car...especially after spending over a thousand miles with it over a 4 day period. It was so incredibly slow, and it handled like a boat.
You know, if a car REALLY handled like a boat, it'd lean into turns, and that'd just be rad. Late night food for thinks.
107 in my girlfriend's corolla. Stupidest thing I have ever done, was in a 45 zone with stop lights. Ended up pulling a 540 and coming within a foot of flipping the car over the edge. Still pissed, car still had plenty left in it. 100 in a 1995 ford ranger, stupid thing had a governor. 110 in a 2003 F-150 harley davidson edition, only around 2000 rpm, but was going around a turn.
RS200's speedometer is waaay off because he added big rims and changed the final drive ratio along with the 1st and 2nd gear ratio.
We had it wrapped all the way around, almost hitting the button to reset the trip.
An indicated 260kph (160mph) is what I would guess, speedo stops at 180kph.
We're not too sure, but we think we were actually going 205kph (130mph).

Actually, it wasn't that bad, the steering wheel shook a little, but not nearly as much as I thought, nothing like the harley. You go 95 in the harley and it feels like 60.

It's legal here.
Yep, I was driving on the Autobahn when I did these speeds. On state roads, the maximum speed allowed is 100 km/h (62 mph) but these roads sometimes have speed limits imposed on them for certain stretches (anything from 80, 70, 60, 50 or even lower km/h speeds). Some sections of Autobahn are speed-limited too. ;)
Umm...143 MPH tonight, with 1000 RPM left in it. :o
my bad, 160, not 170
90-somethin  <_<
Don't know--wasn't driving. A friend had a Sunbeam Tiger. I rode with him once, he opened her up and I never rode with him again. He was a friggin nut.
I'm sure I hit 100+ a few time in the Mustang, but I was paying more attention to the driving than the speedometer.
I opened up the 'stang today...not extreme just a hard run to top of 3rd when i had to slow for traffic
Probably about 80 when passing, pretty lame.
130 mph in a new (at the time) 1988 Audi 100 w/ 5 cyl engine on Autobahn near Heidelberg. 140 mph 2 yrs ago in Audi A6 Avant w/ 2.5L Diesel. Love those Autobahn speeds! You feel like you're crawling at 70 mph for the 1st week once you get back home to the states! I hit 100 every once in a while in the states, but it's not realistic to try more than 75-80 or so to cruise (along with everyone else). B)
I went 90 in the Grand Marquis a while back I think...I didn't know I was going that fast because I was on the freeway near Detroit and the traffic moves way faster than the posted (I think 75 MPH) limit and I wasn't paying attention and was just going with the flow of traffic...then my mom goes "Christopher ***** *****!" Then I see I'm going about 90. ^_^
