Quote from: Madman on April 17, 2024, 05:24:21 PMYes, it was sold in America as the Renault Caravelle.  According to legend, Renault executives were afraid the name Floride might offend people in the other 49 states!  Personally, I don't believe this story because since when have the French ever been afraid of offending anybody?

Imagine if they had offered a car for every American state as to not offend anyone. Same car but different name. So the Renault Floride for Florida, Renault California for California or the Renault Texas for Texas. That would have been fun!

Quote from: Madman on April 17, 2024, 05:24:21 PMBy the way, while I was visiting you in Munich last year, I happened to be walking across a bridge near your place and noticed somebody  had thrown some bicycles into the river....

Okay, Christian, time to confess.  It was YOU, wasn't it?

Shhhh... not so loud!

I nearly ran over one of those idiot cyclists a few days ago. He ran a red light, at night and of course had no functioning front/rear light and was dressed in black. The moron had a death wish. Anyway, I saw him and expected him to do this, but I of course went into full drama mode, braked hard, honked my horn and opened my window to curse at him - so that the many people at the crossing would learn something.  :mrcool:

It was quite something it its day - took competitors +/- 20 years to catch up (Dodge in '51 and Chevy in '55).

I'd give a vote to the '66-'67 charger (floor shifter AT, full length console, F/R bucket seats, hatchback):

And of course the '70 Camaro (wrap around dash, symmetrical gauge layout):

I've shared my prejudice against PHEVs several times on the 'SPIN. So, yes  - regular Prii > Primes.

You're more than welcome to drive my BRZ if you're ever back in Ohio for some reason.  It's fun, but I'd definitely prefer scenario 1 over 3 if it were me.

I appreciate the offer

I also would appreciate the relaxation of the Prius in the daily grind. I can't say I'd look forward to commuting in the 86 but maybe it's not so bad with the radar cruise. An auto 86 is a back of the mind thought to make commuting better

Regular Prius > Prime, the wait and expense of the Prime doesn't seem worth it. Unless there's one sitting at a dealer near you for a decent price.

Dealers are swarming with primes here. No regular Priuses on the lot. I took my test drive in a prime. The big battery gives a good torque fill on the low end

I'd still need to test drive an awd(and an 86), though.

The 86 would be the DD except for snow on the roads.  Which usually seems about 10 days a year.

The upside to the 86 is having power/fun for hilly weekend drives through New England. As well as dual zone climate control and heated seats. The Miata is pretty slow with 2 people and AC on if it's raining.

Option 3 is also a much cheaper option at the end of the day at about $26k. Option 1 is about $39k

Quote from: Rich on April 17, 2024, 12:14:30 PMSeems like the options have whittled their way down

1) keep the Miata and sell the Subaru for a Prius AWD

2) keep the Miata and sell the Subaru for a Prius Prime

3)keep the Subaru and sell the Miata for an 86 (though I haven't test driven one, they are vaporware at the moment)

I'd definitely "want" an AWD option if I were still commuting to work up there.
