The Ford V10 prior to 2005 was a gutless pig - rated anywhere from 235 - 300 hp and saddeled with a 4sp AT (MT were extremely rare).

I'd increase my budget a bit and opt for a 2005+ Super Duty w/V10 and 5sp AT (but I'd, um, forgo the hood scoops).

I have driven a 2005+ Super Duty w/V10 and 5sp AT, and it is also gutless. Swift could beat it in a straight line. We should all drive Swifts.

I have extensive experience with the 275hp/4AT variant and I wouldn't call it gutless (it is definitely a pig though 13 mpg if you're gentle). You wouldn't want to go much faster in a truck that size anyway, and it has a massive amount of torque.
