$30K on a car today and why.
If I had a place to park it, Porsche Cayman S (http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?zip=11422&endYear=2013&modelCode1=CAYMAN&startYear=1981&makeCode1=POR&transmissionCode=MAN&searchRadius=300&maxPrice=30000&listingId=313122862&Log=0)
Why? Because its the right thing to do. The closest thing to a new NSX. A legitimate 30 MPG highway sports car.
If I didn't have a place to park a whole car, used Aprilia Tuono V4R & ZZR1200 (and the rest would prob go to 2-3 years of insurance  )
A used C6 coupe.
BRZ
2011 Mustang GT
A used 2012 Fusion SEL AWD. Spend the rest of the money on a lot beer, a lot of popcorn, a lot of chicken wings and a couple of TV's.

As a daily driver and only car? No, it's not the right thing to do...
Do I get to keep what I currently have or does it replace it?

What makes you say that? You had a sports car for an only car, Rags does, I just stepped into that realm.

Cayman is more daily-drivable than many other sports cars. It's got 2 trunks.

It's a 90k mile Porsche that's damn near impossible to work on yourself. And then there's insurance too. Has nothing to do with the practicality of it. It's more practical than my BRZ

I don't daily drive. This would be a weekend car.
And like others said, no less practical than say, a Miata. What work would I need to do on it, besides change oil + brakes + belts?

Even belts would be tough. But the car has 90k miles. Assuming that's all you'd have to do is a bit naive. But yeah, you don't daily drive, so I guess it's a completely different situation.
I guess the question wasn't clear. Is this in addition to what you currently have? Or to replace? If I get to the BRZ, I think I would get a slightly used STI, or maybe an SUV/CUV kind of thing (Element, CX-5, 4Runner, Forester, Outback, something like that).

By that mileage, most cars are looking at changing plugs and wires (good luck DIYing that one on a Cayman/Boxster), coolant flush, transmission oil change, and possibly the water pump.
I would say in addition to what you have now. I suppose you could put the value of your car to a trade.
R.E. Cayman maintenance. I'd just pay to get whatever I couldn't do done. Water pump etc might be like a $1000 job. Pricey but not
(http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DsuKQ5xER_I/SX4YIyhP7iI/AAAAAAAABp4/Xj42s9oy4Rs/s400/sanford_heartattacks.jpg)
Spark plug wires... dont these things have coil on plugs? I guess I'd have to change plugs too. They could bundle that shit in with the water pump. I would do one as a DD if I needed one and could afford one.
Wouldn't be just one car, but if it had to be, then BRZ and trade the 944 for an NA Miata.
WRX Limited + $165 in accessories.
If I could keep the Outback then I'd probably get a S2000.
996 C2 (post facelift)
Wait til February or March and you may find out.
Ummmmmmm...... BRZZZZZZ or used late model 3er. Period. Yea Buddy.
If Nissan Juke AWD came with a 6-speed, I would do it.
Otherwise......used CTS V.

I feel that if 2o6 was handed $62K, he could be roped into buying this:

It's fast as heck and handles well.
But the CVT ruins everything, that's one thing that really spoiled the fun from when I drove it.

The odd number of Tatas freaks me out a bit. This should always be divisible by Two.

The spacing required to get the prosthetic one in there is frightening to imagine. You could fit Texas between those.

Fast? Maybe big V8s have spoiled me but I've never heard the Juke decribed as fast...

No, but you can get plenty other fast cars (http://www.carsdirect.com/build/options?zipcode=92626&acode=USC20TOC021D0&restore=false) (faster than the Juke, at least) for $30k if that's the point you're trying to make.

My point exactly! There's plenty of excitement to be had for 30k! No way in hell I'd spent my money on a Juke.........
FFR Hot Rod with a turbo 13b/5 speed.
edit: I don't know if the exact car that I want to build would come in at under $30k, but the basic car would be attainable at that price.
