Well, it is the vapors that fire off, not the puddle of gas. Toss a butt in a puddle of gas, and it smothers out. There have been several incidents of people filling plastic gas containers that ignited from static electricity. The hospital did have a patient ignite his oxygen tank because he just had to have a smoke.
I'm constantly amazed by the number of people that absolutely have to smoke at the hospital. They are there after heart attacks and walk out wearing gowns and rolling their IV stands to the parking lot to smoke. We have a no smoking policy on campus and people hide behind trees to smoke; hide behind columns; take wheel chairs out to the sidewalks to sit in, while they smoke. What is even more perplexing are all the doctors and nurses that walk out to smoke.
I just don't get it...even though I used to smoke.

On my street is one of Munich's major hospitals. I walk or drive past there daily. It's incredible to see
