The Official MX-5 Miata Thread

Don't know if it should be in the "fast lane" or not. Perhaps if we had a Curvy Road section it be more appropriate. Anyway, we've got many cool people here now that know the joy of owning one of the best cars ever made. That's right, suck it if you don't agree. So I figure we should have a thread to talk about current and older generation MX-5's. Talk about performance parts and our thoughts of what's good or bad. And any news that comes from Mazda about future NC versions or the ND.

We could also post pictures of our cars and the road trips we take with them. I'm always taking my car up to the NC Mountains to reduce the rubber on my tires.

I vote we have an entire sub-forum dedicated to Miatas.

We don't have to vote. We own CarSPIN now.

I miss this little bugger almost as much as I miss the s2k. Not well-suited for a freeway commute, but it was the perfect around-town runabout.

Also, I thought I had a pic somewhere of me striking a goofy pose in it... :mask:

#7

1990 MX-5 A package
Jackson Racing header and high flow converter with stock muffler. I have a JR one for it but took it off a year ago. With the hard top on it sounds good. But with the top down it's just too much. It's like a big fart can.
Thinking about getting a Racing Beat one next. I've been a one and it sounded and looked much better.
1995 Miata brakes front and rear. With brembo rotors. They cost less than the stock ones so what the hell?
Stock Mazda R Package ground effects on front and rear bumper with deck lid spoiler.
Mazdaspeed Steering Wheel.
1993 RX-7 fog lamps and gear shifter leather knob. Thanks totaled RX-7!
1999 Miata 15" five star rims.
Racing Beat springs with Bilstein's
Mazda Hardtop

Best road to drive on? HWY 226A NC

What's next? Well I'm not sure. In some ways I miss the stock feel the car had before I started working on it. I'm either going back to stock or flyin miata the hell out of it. I'd also really think about putting a rotary in it if I had the time. And next spring she's going into the shop and having a restoration started.

BTW, I was trying to chase down an NB going downhill on that road... that dude was really, really fast though and I didn't want to push a car I'm not familiar with that hard.

haha, you just reminded me of this streetfire vid where these azn kids play Initial D at an arcade, and then try to drift their Miata IRL on a winding mountain road. Inevitably, they plow into a guardrail (moderate damage), and then spend the last 5 minutes of the video staring at the dent and going "fuuuuuck..."

It's only got 200K+ on it. It's just getting broken in.

the Teuton

This is what happens when you have an auto body guy with an older than dirt car.
2. 1995 Saturn SL2 5-speed, 126,500 miles. 5,000 miles in two and a half months. That works out to 24,000 miles per year if I can keep up the pace.

Mine is a 2000 Miata LS

It has power windows and mirrors and A/C, and an open diff.

I took it for a test drive back in March when I was shopping for a muscle car, and was smitten.  I was at the Ford dealer test driving a 2010 Mustang GT at the time when I saw it.  The roads were slightly damp and I could whip that Miata around and have total confidence in what the chassis was doing.

At my sister's town of Geneva, NE:

On part of my road trip in Wilmington, NC at one end of I-40:

At the other end of the country in Bug Sur, CA:

And on to my new base.. this is Anderson Dam not far from my town:

And for all of you that say the Miata is not a road trip car?

Pansies!!!! :evildude:

I could've done that in my 20's. But I'm not so sure my body could take it now that I'm getting close to 40.

Style bars? :(

Laconian

Yeah, style barz. They came with the car, and I like how they look.

BimmerM3

Well, I'm not a huge fan of style bars, but your car is pretty much flawless otherwise so I'm still jealous.

Laconian

No need for jealousy; the driver's side fender is a wee bit crumpled.

I can forgive that.

Byteme

You guys are driving me nuts.

I've got to take a full set of pictures and post them, especially a few of the home made wind blocker I just installed. The more I drive the car the more I enjoy it.

I think in about 4 weeks the wife and I will throw a bag of tools and some luggage in the boot and make a quick weekend dash of about 500 miles up to Arkansas to check on the house.  It will involve Scenic Arkansas 7.  That area is beautiful in mid to late October.

You can look at them for free. It's not as good as the old Miataclub stuff but it's not that bad. They have the RX-5 NC in the new one. But they don't tell much about it.

MrH

I'm going to try and get my miata in for a detailing this Friday I think.  Place has a good rep, and they'll get all the swirls out of the clear coat and clean everything up.

I think I'm going to debadge before I hand it to them.  I'm a Class Marshall for the local Concours here.
