Do they sell Diesel engine Mercedes and BMW in Mexico?  Since you mention fuel economy as a factor, if they sell them you should consider them.  Also huge cruising range.

MrH

New Lexus LS.  Or a GS-F.

If you're driving 25k miles a year, you'll soon really appreciate cars that are reliable   I have no idea what those cost down in Mexico though.

Yeah, reliability and low maintenance (tires and shit, $400 911 oil change etc) would be priorities for me.  Honestly a non luxury brand might be the best bet esp given what you said about how "exotics" are viewed in Mexico City, I'd want something low profile.

No diesels here. Audi used to sell them but after they got busted no more.

Lexus isn't available here for some reason. Only Infinity and Acura are here out of the Japanese luxury brands.

Out of the option we've been discussing only the 911 is "exotic". Everything else is fine. You see tons of bimmers, mercs, audis every day.

And maintenance is a consideration that's why I hesitate on simply using the M5 and am thinking on getting something new. New BMWs here have 3 year/100,000 km warranties and services are included.

I'd need the 90D at least to get enough range. I really like the Tesla but it is priced stupidly high here. The car I'd need would be about 125K here. Can't afford that.

Bolt is not available yet Here. I doubt I'd like it enough but maybe.

I think a Bolt might be too pedestrian for your tastes. Also, the 60kWh batttery might also be too small for your needs. I suppose your drive is mostly highway driving with speeds well north of 100 km/h, which really kills EV range.

Too bad about the Tesla. With a charger both at work and home, it would both be a nice and effortless setup.

Just checked the Tesla site again. A 100D (without the P so no ludicrous acceleration) would be 50K down and 2K per month for 5 years to get. Can't afford that.

Is that in us$?

Yes. Well, it's 1 million pesos down and 40K pesos monthly. It roughly equates to 50K US and 2K US monthly for 60 months. But the loan is denominated in pesos.

Does Genesis count as a premium brand now? For this purpose I don't think you can do better than a loaded G80 3.3T for the money

It's not for sale here.

Import a 240D or 300D or 300D Turbodiesel from the US.

Classic cars are becoming more and more interesting, especially because they don't have these annoying electronic nannies and intrusive safety beeps and reminders.  :praise:

These are my thoughts exactly. Not a 240D perhaps, but otherwise it's spot on.
Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

I was talking about this last night with Monika. Her suggestion is to keep the MINI or get a used i3 instead. She says she'd be glad to daily drive that in León when I am away and that I can take the X5 and put a ton of miles on it. She reminded me that we have no mileage limit on the X5's lease so I should just pile on the miles on it and at the end of term turn it in.

It makes all the sense in the world obviously, but it sorta removes the fun from spending countless hours in online configurators!

Drive the X5 till you configure the perfect E43 coupe then the X5 will burn down or end up in the ocean and you can get the E43 with insurance money.

Wait, wasn't the whole point of the X5 for hauling around baby and related stuff?

Yeah, but mostly for long trips. For driving around the city Monika actually prefers the MINI because it's easier to manage in heavy traffic and has a lower profile.

Fair enough. Sounds like you got a plan then! Maybe not as exciting as getting a new car, but I'd imagine that the X5 is a excellent on the highway.
