Now you have THREE cars? I thought everyone in the Bay Area just teleported and complained from place to place

Thanks!

Three cars that he should sell and get one decent car

Aren't you the one with the busted up Sorrento?

Plus, even if I sold all three I wouldn't be halfway to a decent car.

I think he's talking more about just leaving it there 24/7/365 like some people seem to do.  I've got a customer who drives a Matrix with a bike rack and a luggage carrier on top...they never leave that roof.  It is kinda weird to leave them on all the time (especially the luggage box) because of MPGs and stuff, but I get it, especially on smaller vehicles that get decent mileage.

Not any weirder than dailying a truck or SUV by yourself for a commute. It's a waste either way. I just don't have a place to put such a big top box at home. It was previously sitting in the backyard covered in mud and mildew so I figure the roof of the car is a better place for it. I do want to get a fairing for it though.

True enough.  I don't see a big issue with it.  Having a place to store it when not in use would certainly be helpful...but the roof is the next best thing.

Jesus Christ.

I want to change the transmission fluid just for peace of mind and it looks like I've opened a can of worms. So many different opinions on what to use, including people making their own "cocktails" out of different fluids. Apparently Subaru manual transmissions are weird in that they have the transmission, front diff and center/transfer case all in one unit sharing the same fluid. Ugh.

Use the factory recommended fluid.

Factory recommends GL-5, but not all GL-5 is the same apparently.

The Subaru Extra-S OEM fluid is supposed to be the best but they don't make that anymore and the replacement stuff apparently isn't as good.

I still want to get as much life out of it as possible.

Plus, these 5 speeds are known to be weak. I just want to make sure it'll go for as long as possible.

It's super easy to find in parking lots as well. Plus, my friends want to go camping now that I have this car so it might come in handy over the summer as well.

BTW the "weak" 5 speed complaints are kinda over blown especially on these low power N/A cars.  I would just go to the dealer and ask what they would put in, or find a reputable indy shop and ask.  My friend only just blew up his 5 speed after 3 years at over 350awhp.

When you getting that eBay header?  Wait do you have the single port EJ22?  1996 was an odd year with some cars having single port heads, and some having dual port heads since the dual ports were supposed to be phased out completely by the '97 model year.

The "glass tranny" started getting thrown around when the Bugeye came out and people were doing redline launches in them to try to match the published 5.2s 0-60 times and shit.

It'll be raised (to Cale DeRoo height) before packing it with gear and people so it doesn't sag. I definitely don't want stock Legacy/Outback height though.

I also went to the steel yard today and bought the thickest grate they had, then painted it purple just because.

Nailed that shit down and it's sturdy AF now. Now I can actually put things in the trunk!
