I picked it up on Memorial Day. It's like a dream being able to tear down the Miata and really get after it without needing to drive it. It's also nice having a car I can redline without worry or abandon.

Pros:
Steering feel
LED headlights
Tach front and center
Cheap as fuck
Decent shifter
Great seat bolsters

Has a drivers info center, remote unlock, steering wheel audio controls, rear seats (that fold, too!), Bluetooth phone use.... all the shit you guys are probably used to that I haven't had for 5 years.

Cons
Throttle calibration/tuning needs help. It's an on/off switch
The shifter is notchy on the 5 to 4 downshift
It looks like a fat cockroach from anything other than the front

Bottom line:
Pretty much the deal of a century for someone that loves driving and can only get a single car on a budget. In a lot of ways it feels like a RWD version of my 2005 Cooper S with more power up top. It's just fun. And it was less out the door than that Cooper s was too.

Congrats.

What's the power like? Most people always put the car down because it's "so underpowered with only 200-horsepower"...

It feels decent enough for me. I enjoy the powerband, it's reminiscent of a Honda. It's take until about 4-5k rpm then starts screaming to redline.

People complain that it's slow but it's faster than an RX-8 5-60 and I get 34mpg on the highway

  Congrats man.

I gotta ask, what'd you get it for out the door?  I still miss mine a little bit.  Mostly just the looks of it. I always thought they're really good looking cars.  I loved the interior on mine too.

Exactly, and I find it hard to call anything with 200-horsepower slow. Have fun with the new ride!  :ohyeah:

I don't know why you don't like the way it looks.  It's a properly good looking car, IMO.

Agreed.

I really need to drive one of these.  I'll have to see if someone will let me take theirs for a fun run at an auto-x sometime.  I think if they had been available back when I bought my previous Mustang, I probably would have bought one instead of the Stang.  Very much reminded me of my S13 240SX.  I liked everything about the RX-8 except for the tiny trunk (and no folding rear seat) and the horrendous fuel economy.  These address both gripes.  Granted, I did sit in an early model Scion when they first came out and was not impressed with the interior.  The Mustang, for the same money, was much nicer in that regard.  Newer Frisbees fixed most of my interior gripes.

It's a 2017. I don't think there are any more changes coming for 2018 after the 2017 mid cycle refresh

Windows open?

It's sometimes required by some performance driving orgs for safety reasons.  I remember there being some discussion at an auto-x last year between safety stewards about whether windows had to be open.  One person insisted they had to be, possibly based on SCCA trackday rules.

So they can pull your dead body out of the car.

Also contains the shattered glass so it does fly all over the driver or track in event of an accident.
