Dropped the hammer on 16x7 +46 TE37s in white.  11.5lbs vs 21lbs for the stock wheels.  They will be getting RE71s for AutoX.  About the time the RE71s wear out, the stock tires should be toast from DDing.  The TE37s will then go for DD duty (wheel weights make a lick of difference on track, but should be much more noticeable on street).  I don't think I'll like the white so I might get  them powdercoated then too.

I've toyed with the idea of rear louvers on the Mustang.  1970s retro chic.  I think they'd actually annoy me, though, in the same way that I don't like seeing a wing in my view when I look through the rearview.

Also, an added PITA to have to take them off every time you want to clean your rear window.

I kind of like the look, and I've heard it's much cooler inside the car.  Which is great for the SC heat.

If I don't get this I'll get tint... and I don't like the way tint looks on top of the defroster lines and the window border fade in.

Hmmm.  I wonder how dirty it would get.  Seems like it would get less dirty than a plain surface.

Depends on how much pollen and dust is in the air where you are.  I'm sure you recall how bad the springtime tree pollen is up here.  Morning dew will tend to make it cling to the glass and not come off without spraying it with a hose or wiping it down.

Spraying it off should be enough for dirt and pollen down there. The dirt is 'sandy' anyway.

I can totally believe it would cool the car off! that's a biiiig rear window.

I had a shop tint my Legacy and the rear looked fine, they got it nice on the defroster lines so you didn't even see any air gap.

Some real hotrod parts are needed along with the louvers and ducktail. Otherwise it's just rice!

Road Atlanta? What was the scary part... the esses? I'd be weary of the end of that back straight too. Not for me but for other people not knowing their braking points.

The blind apexes and track outs of turns 2-3 and 11-12

The esses were a blast as were the corners at the turns at the end of the back straight. 10a/b also

Get a Corvette - it's the next logical step. Combine the best of the Mustang and BR-Z.

I'd have to pony up another $7k to do that

Waiting on used ND2s about the time I retire. My NB should have about 220k on the clock by then and I'll have an older mustang to do whatever with then as well. The $$ from selling the 86 can go make some interest in the meantime.

Any reason why you want to go back to a Mustang?  I remember driving yours and thinking it was fast, but nothing else was memorable about the driving experience.

I liked the sound and the looks.

I'd have been better served by getting a slightly older mustang.  That platform was just not meant for stiff sprigs and low profile tires. (I got the performance pack, shouldn't have)

If you don't want the 5.0 for whatever reason (even if you don't care about the power, it gets better fuel economy than the old 4.6), I'd be looking for a 2010 (sans PP if you don't want the stiffer suspension) instead of the '05-'09.  That way you get the way better interior and a revised chassis tuning, and IMO the best looking of the S197 body styles.  I very seriously considered a leftover '09 GT at one point but could not get past the interior (it was a base model, and it was awful).  2010 was such a huge improvement in interior.

A mustang could make a decent cheap cruiser. Then switch to Miata for twisty fun.

Man there was a full Griggs Racing 2006 GT for sale not long ago for like $8000.  I mean it literally had almost their entire catalog.

An SNxxx Cobra with the IRS and re-engineered front suspension sounds like a good cheap time. Not sure about long trips in one though. And did they still have 5 speeds?

What about a G37?

Those cars are boring. The IRS cobra gen Mustang was ugly.

I find the late 00's Mustang beautiful. The way that fastback roofline flows into the trunk. The sound it makes. I need to drive one. I've only ever driven one new. We'll see how an older one does. I also may not do it due to losing the LED headlights. They are wonderful.

Maybe you just need a Triumph TR8. It's as fast as a worn out Miata, sounds like a Mustang, handles like a lowered pickup truck, looks like a space ship, and will give you plenty of quality under-the-hood time. Not boring.
