After 800 years of production, the current G is set to be replaced by an entirely new model, that looks almost identical to the current one.  Looks like Merc is taking one out of the 911 playbook.

...claim it's new even if it's not

Apparently, every single part is new, save for five:

~Headlamp washer nozzles
~Rear wheel cover
~Sunlight visor
~Doorhandle buttons
~(one other thing I'm forgetting about)

I hope it comes with a off roading package (lift + chunky tires) though my guess is that isn't in the cards.

I'm sure there will be an off road version.  Perhaps not initially, but shit...the 4x4^2 is about as badass as it gets...I'm sure they'll keep the tradition going.

I mean a somewhat sane one, not a 9 inch lift.

Seeing as you can't get air springs on it, I'd say a three inch factory lift, 33-35" tires and better underbody protection would be a good start.
