That's hilarious! So much cooler than my 7yo pinewood derby experience.
Play this in the background for the real WRC YouTube clip experience. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xubrxJwLxaI
The Ferrari Tournament was pretty good, too. Especially the second video and the final.

I need to find an adult pinewood derby. I'd build a much better car now. (real mechanical knowledge and craftsmanship skills, plus more understanding of physics)

I could see an ironic hipster bar being made around pinewood derbies. Make the bar look like a garage woodshop, put some Cub Scout kitsch on the walls, organize tournaments every Friday and Saturday... and, of course, $$$profitable$$$ corporate team-building activities!

+1
Seems like it could be a total bar even thing. The tracks cost around $5k or so. Would be a good investment to setup once a week/ month??

God, I hated the Pinewood derby as a kid, I hate it even more as a parent.

Ah, are you playing the part of the ringer dad?
The Cub Scouts with Boeing engineer dads always won. Note that this was BEFORE the McDonnell Douglas reverse takeover.

That's because you're forced into it in both cases.

No, I'm playing the part of the Dad Who Could Be Ringer But Chooses not to. Which means, my boys build most of their own cars with some help; and then take their proud creations out to be stomped on by Dads Who Chose To Take Over Their Sons' Projects.
Seriously, the kid who wins every year in my youngest's den can't tie his own shoelaces. He can't pay attention to anything for even mere moments. He is completely incapable of putting the stickers on straight- but his car wons every year because his dad apparently can't stand to lose.
I could do better: I could stomp him squarely- but instead because I have an iota of integrity, I let my son build his car.

Maybe his idiot kid is a pinewood derby savant?

When he was asked to pick up his car for a photo in the winner's circle, he didn't know which one was his.
Um....this is awesome. Better than most actual racing.
I'm getting the feeling watching these is going to lead me to a new expensive hobby, though.
Best thing about this? Totally emissions-free racing! Oh wait, the electricity comes from coal power plants...!?
hahahahahahahaha A pro race driver "cheated" on simulation racing. He had someone else drive for him.
