BMW M5 Competition Signs Up For Crime Fighting In Australia

BMW has supplied a new M5 Competition to Australia's Victoria Police. The high-performance executive sedan will be used as a highway patrol car and joins the 530ds that were added to the force last year.

Featuring the typical livery, the M5 gets roof-mounted emergency lights and front and rear strobes, so that anyone will be able to see it coming.

"With the incredible BMW M5 Competition entering Victoria Police Service, the performance level has jumped up the scale", said BMW Australia CEO Vikram Pawah. "When combined with the safety of the xDrive four-wheel drive system, the M5's all-round ability aspects makes it a natural fit for dynamic police duties."

Very few cars will be able to get away from it, as it can go from rest to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in just 3.3 seconds. Top speed is 250 km/h (155 mph), but get it with the optional M Driver's Package and it will top out at 305 km/h (190 mph). Power comes from a 4.4-liter, twin-turbo V8, delivering 616 HP (625 PS) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque directed to both axles through an eight-speed automatic transmission.

In Australia, the M5 Competition has a starting price of almost AUD $230,000 (USD $161,365). However, the local authorities haven't spent anything on the car, as it's actually on loan for the next 12 months.

On this side of the Atlantic Ocean, BMW has it listed from $110,000 (AUD $156,579), whereas the 'regular' M5 starts at $102,700 (AUD $146,188), and jn Germany from €128,900 (USD $145,247 / AUD $206,833).

Nice! I'd hate to see that barreling down on me!

If you were in Australia, you definitely would!
A good friend will come bail you out of jail...BUT, a true friend will be sitting next to you saying, DAMN...that was fun!
