QuoteI won't rag on you as much, since you're the one on the forums with an A4 that isn't just a tarted up Passat (ahem, Tony!).
Thanks Raza!   I'll take that as a compliment, especially coming from a punk-ass kid like you!

Raza, you're a punk-ass kid who's barely out of diapers.  Where do you get off talking to a pro like me that way, man?
I'll take just out of diapers instead just back in them, old timer.
Well, you've got me there, man.  I'm not quite back into them yet, though.

No, I doubt you are ready for diapers. But you may have a condition were you need them in which case you should just pee on Raza.

Hey, a whole day went by and no one on the forum got a ticket!  Maybe the scourge is ending??     Everyone press your right foot down to the floor as a salute!

You do that Sax, and let's see what happens.     Better yet, do it right where you know the staties hide looking for speeders.  If you get a ticket man, I will be laughing my ass off...

Believe me, I'm always thinking of this thread when I'm on the open road!  I did the same hiway run yesterday when everyone was going 93 - the average was only 85 this time.  I was definitely extra paranoid though! Instant karma's gonna get me!

One thing boarding school does is keep my record squeky clean. I have to say, I have been way too lucky. Cops just don't seem to notice me, and if they do at some point and pull me over, I am hoping the fact that I will most likely be in a Volvo station wagon will help my case greatly that I am a "good kid."

Dad gets most of his speeding tickets going to church. haha

My brother hasn't gotten hardly any lately thanks to Rocky Mountain Radar.

Whats the best radar? besides Valentine One

Speed_Racer

I like the Escort Solo S2 because it's powerful and wireless (wires can bother me, plus I like to use my lighter to charge my cell phone.)

As soon as I have a spare $300 or so lying around, i'd like to pick one up.

LMAO, as a student I doubt ill have a spare $300 just lying around, but ill look around online for some deals, thanks for the suggestion :)

I was scratching my butt and $300 fell out.

My brother's radar detector was over $200 but it works good.

Oh and can you scratch your butt again and send me $300, free cash is always accepted ;) Hell if you want you can take $50 from it

TBR

Well it had better not be me because I can definitely not afford a ticket.

The PNI Sensoro Traveller II is an inexpensive detector that is also cordless.  It's gotten great reviews online (I checked epinions and a few other sites) and there are a few under $100 on eBay right now.  I'm thinking of getting one myself.

It's much better than the newer "Silver Bullet" Sensoro they're selling now at Costco, according to all of the reviews.

I haven't run a radar detector since my old Valentine around 1992.  Back then I got the most tickets.  I consistently drive much faster now, but am a lot more careful about when and where.  So far that approach has worked.  I think Catman can back me up on this, but most cops will give a guy with a radar detector a ticket rather than a warning.   A radar detector says "I'm a speed freak and will break the law as soon as you turn your back.  Hahahahah coppers!  Eat my dust!"  And they don't need a sniffer to know you have one.

I got bagged in 1990 doing 90 in my old Audi.  The cop was set up in the perfect hiding spot about a mile across a valley.  Instant on radar, all my alerts go off, slam on the brakes and slow to 60 or so.  Of course he bagged me, and of course he knew I had a radar detector even though I threw it under the seat.  I'm not saying I wouldn't be caught by the same dragnet again, but I probably wouldn't get the $300 ticket.  I'd probably get a detector if I was in a high enforcement area, but around here it's pretty manageble just by being smart.  Oh, man...I'm sure I just cursed myself!  :pullover:

Actually it was a Coupe GT (which was built on the 90 frame, but at the time in the USA, it was called the Audi 4000).

So in '90 I was driving my '86 90-derived Coupe GT at 90 on Rt 2 and paid $300.  I think that covers all the numbers!  :P

Don't be so sure of that.  I've gotten fucked that way, cop thinks more "fuckin' rich kid, screw 'im"

Yes, but they do have a wireless and hidden Valentine One, though it would cost you a bit more than $300.

You know what, though?  I never once have gotten a warning anyway.  I think warnings are given by local cops more often than not.  Staties are out there being good soldiers for the state writing tickets, and I think they are far more robotic with their approach.  I really only speed flagrantly on highways, so my chances of ever getting a warning for a speeding ticket are very slim.

I've (til this point) always used the "smart speeding" apprach too, and it's always worked.  I let my guard down and do more serious speeding out of state because I don't have to worry about points.

Fortunatley driving a Buick Lesabre automatically deducts 10mph off your speed.

I think Josh or Raza gets the next one.

I echo your experience Dan.  I have never gotten a warning.  Every f&$king time I've been pulled over, I've driven away with a ticket in my pocket.

Having said that, I no longer use radar detectors, for a couple of reasons.

First, for me, they take the fun out of driving.  I was getting a good number of false alarms, and I found I was spending so much time worrying and looking for a police presence that usually wasn't there.

Second, it is usually possible to tell where there are police by the behavior of other drivers.  I really only get tickets when I get sloppy and careless.  When I'm on top of my game, I always the the cop is there before he knows I am.

Third, I do most of my driving in places that are familiar, and I know all the hiding spots.  In an unfamiliar spot out of state, where I don't have to worry about points, I don't really care if I get nailed.

Fourth, I got a stiff speeding ticket a while back while using a radar detector.  The traffic was light, and the trooper used instant-on radar.  With my last ticket, I got tagged by lidar, and a radar detector wouldn't have helped with that either.  The truth is, on average, I get no more tickets without using a radar detector than I did while I was using it.
