Title: E24 Bmw M6.?
Post by: MrH on October 16, 2008, 10:06:47 AM
typing this from my phone. Saw an e24 bmw m6 in a little, shady used car dealership around me. I don't think they know what they have on their hands. If i can snag it cheap it might be a real easy profit to resell. If it's in good shape, it could be an awesome ride for real cheap.

Anyone have some info on them? Worth looking into? How much are they worth? Looks like only 1700 or so were made so they're pretty rare.

i think so. Didn't have much of a chance to look. Drove part it a few times. Definitely has the m6 badge on the grille.

That one I posted is a concours quality car with 70,000 original miles -- a $25-30k car.

If you found the same car in kinda shitty condition but running and decent, it'd be absolutely worth it.

from the 10 seconds i saw it, i didn't see any rust. If it runs and i can get it for under 1500 it might be worth it.

A m6 in good condition is easily worth $20k.

DO IT!

Those cars are incredible.

In all reality it will be slow and handle poorly relative to even a new lower end 3 series.

With that said i'd buy one, they were pretty good for their time. I doubt the dealer doesn't know what he has considering it has a M6 badge on it. He would atleast run it through a computer to check used car prices, so it is priced accordingly i'm sure. Maybe it's in nice shape and has no rust, then that will probably just mean that it has a major or impending failure known to the salesman and he's trying to dump it for a buddy. Those early M motors are EXTREMELY expensive to fix. i recall reading about the E28 and E34 M5's motors requiring valve adjustments EVERY 15K to run and perform properly. Still i'd buy it, but don't expect to swoop in and buy a 15K car for 3K.

Also make sure it's not a 633 with a M6 grill.

i'm looking at this for more of a profit than a car for myself. If you saw the dealership there's a good chance the place doesn't have internet. It's chained up with barb wire around it. It's definitely in the ghetto.

It could very well be a cover up for some drug runners.

Oh, this story gets even weirder.

Parked my car in a shitty neighborhood right next to it, and started walking over.  What did I see?  The fence was pushed out by the M6.  That's right, it's parked against the fence, and actually pushing the chain link fence is sticking out about 8 inches because of it.  And the front bumper is gone.  But this isn't the same spot I saw it at the last few days.  Must have moved it...

Strange.  I walk around to try and get into the jail yard to see this thing.  Sure enough, the M6 I originally saw was still out front facing the street!!!  This place has two of them!  The one in the front is in pretty good shape.  The other, not so much.  They had a lot of unique, run down cars.  Couple of older BMW sedans (one was a 733i i think, an older 3 and 5 series too).  They had some Alfa Romeo that looked like it was in great shape for $1990 I think.

I took pictures.  Didn't find anyone there.  I got pictures and got out quickly.  I felt like at any time I could be shot for being in there.  This place could definitely be the grave yard for old drug runner cars in the 80's.

They were probably drug dealers' cars from the 80s.

I dunno if you can make a quick flip on these cars, especially if it has any serious problems. These are not Civics.

Hmm, chop shop maybe?  It's interesting - two M6s, and one is missing the front bumper.  It's certainly possible that they are putting M6 goodies on a regular 6-series or some other shady deal.

If you can walk onto the lot during the day, you can get the VIN from the dashboard and see if it's a real M6 or not.

Theres a similar used car lot on the main road to the freeway out here... its in a really crappy neighborhood of trailer homes.

This dealership has about 40 cars. Of that, I would say 2 are STIs, 1 WRX, 1 Evo, 1 M3, 3 Range Rovers, etc.

Its really really weird

Our old building had loads of premium used car dealerships around it; and it was ghetto.

Haha, next we'll hear that you got arrested or shot because you were hanging around that lot. I don't think I'd bother with it.

I've never seen an attractive used car dealership.

Exotic dealerships are usually pretty nice. Check out places like The Auto Toy Store... Bill's Wheel House in Seattle is pretty nice, too.

Yeah, they're usually the exception. There are some really nice places up on North Hayden in Scottsdale. Automobile Lamborghini is right next to the Scottsdale Airport.

I've noticed a lot of these places sell a mix of new and used. The Ferrari dealership on McDowell in Scottsdale always had a slew of different 996s outside.

There's a dealership here in Boise, Fairly Reliable Bob's. For a while, there were two lots, one with trucks and SUVs, and the other with Corvettes. Then, literally overnight, the Corvettes turned to economy cars. This morning, there were no cars at all on either lot. 0_o

BMW is an expensive type of car.... Same with audi, porsche, and mercedes...
