It can't be bad publicity if it's user error. 🤔

Well the bad publicity of having an engine blow up with no warning at under 100k is certainly their problem.

The only car I've owned that had engine issues was a 1979 Ford Fairmont with the I-6 and that was because I didn't check the oil. But crap happens!

Yeah, I would wonder about that.

Only engine I've ruined is a 350 SBC because I was in a hurry to swap the heads before race weekend and put stock length pushrods in it instead of +0.10 inch pushrods.

I set a Land Cruiser on fire, but in the engine's defense, it was still running when I shut it off, and the fuel lines were on fire at that point.
Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

Didn't you have a blown engine on your drive home some time ago?

Yes, that's what I'm talking about.

It survived almost 2 years with the wrong pushrods before it broke a valve.

Can you not just take up the slack by tightening the rocker arm a bit moar?

Yes but the geometry being off by even that little ends up wearing through stuff over time

You think Audi cares?

Do I think that Audi executives are actively worried about this one instance? No.

Do I think that Audi wants me as a customer, but that this event will make me less likely to purchase an Audi? Yes.

Whether or not they care, things like these have an effect on their business. Which is why I asked if they knew anyone with a large social media presence. Enough bad publicity will get shit done.

Other than one mention of another engine failure, nothing indicates that it's user error unless I accidentally skipped over something in this thread.

:hmm: I suppose that's probably not the engine's fault. Maybe.

I remember when the Camry took a trailer hitch through the front of the radiator, which then pushed the compressor into some other thing and into some other thing and it was leaking its vital fluids all over the road but just sitting there idling calmly as if it wasn't about to die a horrible death... When I sneezed in the Passat I'm pretty sure an error code would pop up.

You're my age.  We're getting old.  Plus, now that you're married, your life expectancy has gone way down, since you're more likely to be poisoned by your wife.

No, it was an electrical relay failure. It was also 15 years old and had 229,000 miles on it. I broke the front hub on the current one too, but it was put together wrong in the first place, and I was backing a trailer that was 2000 lbs over the rated capacity up a hill in the ice.

Did you share those details in the original thread? For some reason I thought you were just driving it normally.

I thought so.

edit; I didn't mention the weight- which I didn't know until a couple of weeks after the incident.

 I just don't see any way you could have avoided that situation.
