Whats the thoughts on buying extended warranties???
I can see myself keeping the Alfa for a long time as I love the damn thing. It looks like a mopar extended warranty for 8yrs/100k miles is roughly $2,400 and is transferable to the next owner if I would get rid of the car. The price doesn't seem too significant so its interesting. :hmm:
Trying to figure out if its worth it though. Obviously it will be expensive if something major goes wrong. I looked into with my Grand Cherokee but never did it and the thing had no significant issues in 9 years. My Mazda never had major costs in 16 yrs now (well the engine was replaced under warranty at 80k miles, would have been like $5k without it). Our Focus had continuous transmission problems but covered under Fords extended warranty (I understand it would have been like $3k per visit otherwise). My parents Fusion hybrid just blew its transmission - $7k to fix but covered under the special hybrid powertrain warranty. So I really have no real experience with a massive repair bill in my car owning life - but could have had astronomical bills if the OEMs didn't offer up special programs.
I used a warranty once for a sun visor. So worth it. Fuck warranties.
Only get the factory extended warranty, avoid the aftermarket ones- they suck. There are usually different tiers of coverage too, some are only powertrain, some cover more stuff and of course, are more expensive.
My dad had the extended factory warranty on his 2010 Mercedes E350 CGI. If I remember correctly it cost around 800,- Euros a year. That's a lot of money and he never really had to rely on the extended warranty to fix a problem and cover the cost.
The extended warranty has since worn off and he has not extended it. There has been no indication that his car is going to be problematic so he figured it's cheaper to not pay for the extended warranty and deal with issues if they should appear. About a year ago the only thing that ever went wrong was a faulty pixel screen inside the tachometer. Half of the screen worked, the other half was faded and unreadable during daytime. It was replaced in less than an hour at the local MB dealership. No idea how much he paid out of pocket, but my dad wasn't pissed or anything so I assume it wasn't that expensive.
Can you extended the warranty later? Maybe wait and see a few months/years how the car will be reliability wise and then make your decision. ;)
I should put a turbo on the Doge and then buy an aftermarket powertrain warranty. :muffin:

You keep cars long... it will prob be worth it. Though admittedly the regular Giulias seem to be holding up fine
As a general rule extended warranties are a ripoff.
Didn't you mod your car? At least a tune right? I'm sure as soon as you need any warranty work done they'll probably outright deny it for that reason.
Doug DeMuro paid $3900 for the 6 year bumper to bumper warranty for his Range Rover and it ended paying for $16,925.04 in repairs.

According to the law, a warranty cannot be voided unless your modifications caused the failure, and only for that failure.
Convincing shops and dealerships of this though is sometimes harder than it should be.
I'm so glad I got the extended manufacturer warranty on my used certified 2013 Infiniti QX56. It's covered about three or four things now that would have otherwise cost a lot.
$2,400 for 8 years/100k miles seems pretty decent. You never know...you may take advantage of it, or you'll never have a problem. But if you do have a major problem with the car (or a few smaller problems), you'll probably be glad you got it.
I dunno, it's a gamble, but would be good peace of mind.
I would suggest if you plan on beating on the car a bit, get the warranty. If you treat it gently and service it regularly, you won't likely need it.

Modern PCMs have non-volatile memory that logs when changes are made to the calibration program. So ya. They can tell. Most manufacturers will give the benefit of the doubt to owners of performance cars.
I remember one joker with a Mustang GT- blown up engine, wanted warranty on it. They asked him if he ever raced the car? He said he neeeeeever !
Just for shits, us techs went online and found videos of this clown running 1/8 mile races at some local casino- a bunch of times. We thought it was funny cause Ford gave him an engine.
But we knew Ricky Racer would probably blow another engine before powertrain warranty was out. :lol: ;)
No, with a piggy back the ECU still thinks it's getting the same boost (only thing being changed). No way of telling unless you want to start logging intake temperatures vs ambient (at your time and location) and fuel trims
