Probably with something like a JB4

I feel like I would have to do that ASAP. My Golf lets me change the setting, but importantly it keeps the setting until I change it...there is no default.

CALL_911

You can get an adaptive suspension on the AWD cars, and you can get track handling. I'm scared of adaptive suspension shitting the bed, and they sold like 2 cars with track handling. M sport doesn't do much for me except for the steering wheel and the bolsters on the seats I have are enough for me. This car is great for my purposes.

Except the Comfort setting default drives me insane

It's plenty powerful stock. I think maybe you can code the default to Sport but I am not sure.

Haven't spent much time with it as I was away, but been driving a bit now and first of all- the sound system is nuts. It's so fuckin good, I find myself finishing whatever I'm listening to before I get out of the car. Also I'm really glad it's a manual. I started to think I should've just gone AT, but nah. It is also stupidly quick

Initial impressions:
-Steering is not as good as my GTI's, but the thing is plenty nimble.
-Jesus christ it's fast
-Best sound system I've heard in a car
-The damn thing defaults to "comfort mode" every time I shut it off, which I don't want
-The shifter is very slick, but I'm not perfectly smooth between 1-2 yet. Plus I can't seem to shut off the auto-rev matching feature.

I like it a lot, but it's definitely way more serious of a machine than my GTI was.

Congrats! Did you read the owner manual?...

Car is totalled. Long story short, spun out and ended up in a guard rail 2 weeks ago. I am getting $28.7k for it from insurance (and would like advice for getting some more from them?), and need to find a replacement. There are no 6MT 340xis I can find easily or that are in my price range (there are 15 for sale in the USA). I'd prefer to replace my car with the same exact kind, but that's not easy. Now I'm debating getting an automatic version of the same car, or getting something like an STI or a Golf R. I can't find an B8 S4 6MT and I don't want a DCT. B9 S4s are out of my price range, and I don't want a B9 A4, nor do I want an F30 330xi. Thoughts? It's fucking terrible how incredibly difficult it is to find an AWD 6MT sedan.

:(  Bummer.  At least you're OK.

Finding a used, MT sedan in general is depressing.  Finding anything with an MT is getting very hard as fewer and fewer vehicles even offer it as an option.

STIs were MT-only, so that's a plus.  But they won't be nearly as nice as a BMW or similar car.  More emphasis on performance than comfort/luxury, and inside the ambiance is "economy car" with sporty seats and trim.  And they weren't even the nicest interior you could find in an economy car of the time (I like the interior of newer Focuses, Golfs, or Civics better).

What about a Focus RS?

Hard question. I def don't want FWD, I wouldn't be opposed to a RWD 6MT 340i but it's not like they're easy to find.

So when I totaled my Civic in like 2013, insurance originally offered me like 8.5/9K and I managed to talk them up to 11K.  Its pretty much a game between you and the adjuster and whatever you do, don't take the first offer and instead ask them to see their work on how they got that number.  Generally, they are paying you to replace your car if you had to buy it today and they get a price based on comparable models available for sale in your area and adjust up or down.  So for instance if there are three different 340s comparable to your car in your area they would base your payout on those car's prices and then if your car was higher mileage or worse condition then those they would adjust down and so on.

First thing I would do is check the cars they compared yours too and see if they are still for sale.  I noticed that when I went to review my offer a couple of the cheapest examples of Civics that they used to price me where no longer for sale.  This makes sense as the cheapest cars will probably go first but it also increased my average.

Second, if you've recently replaced anything like tires or brakes or whatever and have the receipts for it, it doesn't hurt to bring it up.  I got like an extra $200 because my tires were like 100 miles old at that point.

Even if it doesn't mater, be sentimental about your color.  My Civic was this burgundy color and it just so happened that in my area there weren't many of those for sale and the one that was was vastly overpriced relative to the more common black or silver.  They didn't include it in their sample but since I "loved" the color so much I argued it should be.

This one is more a state law, but in Illinois they are also required to also pay you the sales tax.  Check if your original offer included that or it was separate.  Actually, check if your state even has that law and if it doesn't ask them for the sales tax anyway.

There is an upper limit to how much they are willing to pay you and its your job to get as close to it as possible through totally justifiable reasons double check their work and don't be afraid to ask.
