Title: Freaking performance bargains....
Post by: sportyaccordy on December 22, 2008, 08:56:36 AM
For some strange reason whenever I go grocery shopping, I pick up the little local car classified papers....

I saw an '05 S4 from a dealer for $18K and thought 'nah that must be a fluke'...

Turns out for whatever reason (gas mileage???) they can be had for pretty cheap. They must be out of warranty or something. The funny thing is the S4s that came before it are about the same price when mileage is the same

Cheap V8 Quattro power (http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/searchresults.jsp?num_records=25&search_lang=en&page_location=findacar%3A%3Aispsearchform&search_type=both&distance=100&address=11216&marketZipError=false&style_flag=1&make=AUDI&model=S4&make2=&start_year=2004&end_year=2010&min_price=&max_price=20000&seller_type=b&transmission=&engine=&drive=&doors=&fuel=&max_mileage=&color=&keywordsrep=&keywordsfyc=&keywords_display=&sort_type=priceDESC&body_code=0&certified=&advanced=&highlightFirstMakeModel=&showZipError=n&default_sort=priceDESC&awsp=false&keywordsrep=&keywordsfyc=&systime=&scarid=253233989&rdm=1229961008572)

You can have an M3 or M5 for less than a new Civic Si... in some cases less than a new Civic DX (http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/searchresults.jsp?num_records=25&search_lang=en&page_location=findacar%3A%3Aispsearchform&search_type=both&distance=100&address=11216&marketZipError=false&style_flag=1&make=BMW&model=M3&make2=BMW&model2=M5&make3=&start_year=2000&end_year=2010&min_price=&max_price=20000&seller_type=b&transmission=&engine=&drive=&doors=&fuel=&max_mileage=&color=&keywordsrep=&keywordsfyc=&keywords_display=&sort_type=priceDESC&body_code=0&certified=&advanced=y&highlightFirstMakeModel=&showZipError=n&default_sort=priceDESC&awsp=false&keywordsrep=&keywordsfyc=&systime=&rdm=1229961148838)

996 Carerra anyone??? (http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/searchresults.jsp?num_records=25&search_lang=en&page_location=findacar%3A%3Aispsearchform&search_type=both&distance=300&address=11216&marketZipError=false&style_flag=1&make=POR&model=911&make2=&start_year=1998&end_year=2010&min_price=&max_price=25000&seller_type=b&transmission=Manual&engine=&drive=&doors=&fuel=&max_mileage=&color=&keywordsrep=&keywordsfyc=&keywords_display=&sort_type=priceDESC&body_code=0&certified=&advanced=y&highlightFirstMakeModel=&showZipError=n&default_sort=priceDESC&awsp=false&keywordsrep=&keywordsfyc=&systime=&rdm=1229961292666)

Dirt cheap.... so cheap... of course the cost of entry isn't representative of running costs... but who really cares????

Post up some more bargains

Wow.  Great finds sporty!

I know I've been watching E46 M3's here for awhile.  If you're willing to shell out $25,000, you can get some craaaazy deals.  I'm talking practically new M3's.

I've been watching for awesome deals in the $20,000-$25,000 range to see what I can pick up when I get out of school.  M3's and S4's are at the top of the list right now.

Those ar good finds, but my pick would be a C5 ZO6.

The only real potential killer is insurance...

Plus prices shift seasonally. S2000s are dirt cheap right now cause of the weather.

Still, I've never really liked AWD but an S4 would be really nice. If it were RWD it would be a no brainer...

Seeing the price of cars right now, I'm really looking into getting either a M3 or maybe an STi..  I wouldn't mind a S2k but I guess something with a bit more utility would be a better choice.

i've been looking at S4's for a few months now... i really want a second AWD car and its so damn tempting.  From what I gather they are very reliable but very expensive for maintenance....

S4s look awesome right now cause it's all snowy here in NYC. But to me AWD is just not worth it only for 2-3 months a year of *possible* snow...

S4 wagons are just cool though... that might be the move.

If S4s and M3s are this cheap I bet C32s are going for like 12K regularly...

It's overweight, but I love them long time.

Unreasonably overweight. And of course, I'm sure Audi's rag top is fine, but the idea of an all-wheel drive convertible still doesn't bode well with me...

I would much rather suffer with an M3 convertible.

Uh, but you're most certainly getting what you pay for - at 60-80k miles the cream is gone, with dubious reliability and really expensive repair bills around the corner.

the ultrasport was a 2004 only model and has the S4 bodykit, S4 aluminum suspension, S4 wheels, S4 brakes, and S4 6 speed manual (regular B6 A4's had a 5 speed)... not sure if it also had the S4 rear biased center differential too

Oh ok yea that does sound pretty good. Actually if I were to get a B5 that would prob be the route I would take. Only problem is, those are so rare, you can prob find a real S4 for the same or less...

Of course, that's my dedicated track car now although I haven't been going for the past few months since I have some work I need to do on it but haven't had time.

I'm tired of having the RSX as a daily driver though.. it's getting boring.

And maintenance. I think my uncle spend $1600 last time he got new tires for his M3. Granted, he has the more expensive 19" tires and gets the most expensive tires, but the cheapest set that tire rack offers would be over $700, but seriously, who puts Kumhos on an M3?

I just spent $950+ on GY Wrangler MTRs for my Taco, $750 for BFGs on the SexiLexi and the Yoko S Drives as a set of summer tires on the MINI set me back over $650, and these are pretty run of the mill vehicles. Performance cars aren't cheap to maintain, it's just part of the deal--but worth it!

I was looking at getting a Camaro SS when I got back to the US  until I saw the prices for 20" tires.  $1,068 every 9 months is rediculous, and there's barely any selection.  Thats one thing I love about those 16" X lites I used to have... $450 for great tires and about $300 for the value ones...

Someone from PM is a sportyaccordy thread fan I see

Still, I made an audible grunt when I saw the price of that 745i. The WORST part about that is an equally good condition 2002 330i goes for maybe 2k less... and an M3 goes for a little more... talk about bass ackwards depriciation
