If subcompacts are supposed to be cheap, fuel-efficient runabouts, wouldn't it make sense for Honda to offer this here? It achieves 0-60 in around 12.5 seconds, slow, but not dangerous and would offer a fuel and price benefit. The 1.4L is a second quicker, and would be competitive with other subcompacts. Heck, a 1.3L Yaris is only 1 second slower than a 1.5L yaris and would be cheaper and return better MPG's. The Toyota Yaris is a cheap little car, and in that respect it succeeds. However, the Fit is expensive, and is intruding on Civic territory in terms of price and MPG's. A 1.4L fit would actually put the Fit in it's place, so to speak.

Those tiny-engine cars have to work too hard on the highway for there to be a gas mileage benefit on the high-speed roads most Americans drive on. They're only good city cars, and city drivers don't typically put enough miles on their cars for there to be a significant financial difference between a 1.3-liter and a 1.5-liter economy car.
