Apparently the FCC pays for Starlink. ISPs can basically give away Starlink kits to folks in the far flung boonies instead of running fiber to the houses, therefore satisfying the statutory requirement that all Americans have access to high speed Internet.

Rumor is 10.1 will be the first shot with the single software stack, integrating highway, city streets, parking lots, & summon.

It looks like you really have to get into ridiculous traffic patterns in cities to really show it's weaknesses... From my point of view its to the point where it will work pretty well already for most of the country

It may have stopped before striking the poor bastards, but again proper driving was to stop in the current lane of traffic and wait for the crosswalk to be clear before making the turn.

Either way, vision-only systems will never fully deliver.

Naw, it's definitely necessary.  It implies there was a safety defect when it was first released that they didn't catch, and that they are now fixing.  For it to really be effective, you have to evaluate why it wasn't caught before release, and also whether the corrective action fixes it or not.  NHTSA is there to evaluate this kind of stuff.

This has been a long time coming.  The reality is, Tesla plays entirely too fast and loose with safety, and this has been mounting for a long time.  NTSB has been shouting from the rooftops for awhile about NHTSA's failures and pushing for them to act.
