I bought a motorcycle.

I don't know why, and I don't have a motorcycle endorsement. It runs, but its rough. Probably a project bike. Paid $400.

Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

It started and ran well after we swapped out the gas; but the guy who has it has it stuffed behind a lot of shit and I couldn't get it out to ride it or even see if the brakes worked. I'm probably an idiot.

For $400 it's hard to lose.

i'm sure I can find a way.

I'm not really worried about it though. If after I get it cleaned up and the carbs de-gunked and the cables all adjusted in, if I find anything really worrying about it, I'll sell it and probably spend genuine money on a bike that actually works.

Until then, I'll tinker.

Mid life crisis?

Good potential for a project.  Judging by the pipes, it must make a nice noise.

No, that's been ongoing for about 20 years now. A proper midlife crisis bike would set me back serious coin. This is just my inner junkrat expressing itself.

Of all the older Japanese bikes, Honda is easiest to get parts for. How many miles are on the odometer?

Yeah, my Suzuki required a lot more searching for parts and upgrades

Suzuki's the worst of the Japanese bikes.

Well, perhaps not the worst, but one of the least popular IME.  Speaking purely anecdotally based solely off what I see out on the trails and nothing to do with street bikes, of course.

That's not surprising. Suzuki now has an outdated and small lineup. But I've had more of them than any other brand. 1977 GS750, 1980 GS550, 1984 SJ410, 1988 Samurai, 1995 Swift, 1997 LS650, 199? Esteem, 200? DL650... I think that's it.

Nearest motox track is like 2 hours away, but the singletrack/enduro scene here is pretty big, so makes sense that I see lots more trail bikes than motocrossers.  KTMs and Husqys galore.  Betas now, too, since we got a local distributor a few years back.

These trails are a 25 minute trail ride away from my house.

Hell yeah.  I like to cruise that power line in the Taco with Kota a lot.  It's a good area to get out of town on days like the 4th of July to get away from the deluge of scary firework noises. Tons of blubberies grow out there, too.

Anyways, [/hijack].  :hammerhead:

So the frame is all stripped down and going to the powder coater tomorrow. Right now, the plan is a very boring satin black, but I'm open to better suggestions. I had briefly considered gold and a sort of "John Player Special" black/gold theme, but not sure about that now.

So, anybody have any input?

I think black works. Let the tank, pipes, other details come to the forefront. Good call on black & gold too, always a classy color scheme!

Morris Minor

That was an aspirational bike when I was a teenager. Dismissed of course by people who'd grown up on Nortons/BSAs/Triumphs. But we all know what happened.
