Wiesmann's Taking Reservations For Its Project Thunderball Electric Roadster

Wiesmann announced today that customers can register their interest for its "Project Thunderball" and secure a place on the customer reservation list at its website, wiesmann.com.

"Project Thunderball is the car that will bring Wiesmann into the new electrified era," said Roheen Berry, the CEO of Wiesmann. "Since revealing the car in April we have seen an overwhelming response from potential customers."

An all-electric roadster, the car is made of carbon fiber and weighs in at just a little more than 1,700 kg (3,747 lbs). Its two rear-mounted motors, meanwhile, make a combined 671 hp (500 kW/680 PS) and 1,100 Nm (811 lb-ft) of torque.

That gives it a weight to power ratio of 2.5 kg/PS, according to Wiesmann, which will help the car achieve a targeted 0-100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration time of 2.9 seconds. Those won't be the only impressive speeds it can achieve, though, thanks to 800V battery technology.

That technology will help its 92 kWh (83 kWh gross) battery pack recharge at speeds of up to 300 kW at DC fast chargers. Between charges, it will be able to go up to 311 miles (500 km) on the WLTP cycle.

"The car is driving beautifully and our investment in the technology such as the regenerative breaking and latest battery technology has paid off," said Berry. "The Wiesmann brand not only has such a storied and wonderful past and legacy, but a bright and exciting future ahead of it."

Customers who order their vehicles now will be the first ones in line for when production begins in 2024 at Wiesmann's "Gecko" factory in Dülmen, Germany. They will have to get their reservations in quickly, though, because the plan is to build just 1,000 units.

Prices, therefore, will be quite lofty, starting at €300,000 ($288,304 USD at current exchange rates).

Instead of engine noise, your right foot controls the wind. It must be a strange sensation.

Other than the style it seems pretty pedestrian. Fairly standard battery size, power, range, and charging stats.

That being said if I was a billionaire I'd be happy to own one.

That looks really nice.

Hopefully we can start to get cheaper, lighter, and less powerful EV roadsters like this.
