VW Teases All-New Golf GTD, Coming To Geneva Next Month

Next month's Geneva Motor Show will host an all-new generation VW Golf GTD, powered by what the automaker says is one of the cleanest combustion engines in the world, thanks to its new twin dosing SCR injection tech.

Overall, the car is said to harmonize "the confident dynamism of the Golf GTD together with higher efficiency and lowest emissions," while the design reflects a combination of dynamism and self-confidence.

As before, the new GTD will be the flagship diesel model within the all-new Golf range, carrying with it a long tradition of fast VW diesels – the very first Golf GTD was unveiled all the way back in 1982.

The TDI unit powering the all-new Golf GTD has been "significantly optimized" and its CO2 emissions have been cut even more, while improving responsiveness, says the German carmaker. Meanwhile, the previously-mentioned twin dosing SCR with double AdBlue injection tech will "greatly" help reduce emissions compared to the previous-generation GTD.

As of right now, VW is playing its cards pretty close to the chest regarding this car. The only other piece of information released along with this teaser image is meant to describe the push-button start process, which is initiated through a pulsing button in the completely digitalized cockpit.

We should however mention that last month, there was a leak that allegedly showed all the power outputs for the new Golf R, GTI, GTI TCR, GTE and of course, GTD model.

The latter's powertrain is said to boast 147 kW (197 HP / 201 PS), which means it would have roughly 16 extra horsepower compared to its predecessor.
