Title: MotoGP vs F1 acceleration

I thought this was cool. Puts things in perspective.

My guess is that the downforce of the F1 car, and associated induced drag, is what really kills it at higher speeds.

Kinda interesting. The F1 car (at least the V10 cars, when I last paid attention) had a notably better power/weight ratio (~1.4 lb/hp vs. ~1.7 lb/hp) so if the F1 car had the aero sophistication of the MotoGP bike (which is to say, not much) yet given it has to punch a bigger hole through the air and has more friction with the ground, they'd probably be about the same, with maybe a bit of an advantage to the bike. However, race the two against each other and the F1 car will be tens of seconds ahead per lap and would lap a MotoGP bike many times - a dozen or more over the length of the average F1 race of ~70+ laps.

Absolutely, the drag induced by the aerodynamics at speed is massive. Put a "speedway kit" on the F1 car, and the result would be much different.
