Title: GTPC 472
Post by: thewizard16 on June 08, 2010, 08:22:07 PM
This one shouldn't be terribly difficult (or at least I don't think it should be)

No, I didn't think so.

Not Wall Street. There is a distinctive building in the background that might help narrow it down as far as city goes, but the building itself is unique and the architecture style is rare in the US.

san fransisco?
Nope.
First hint: Not located in a coastal state.

It's been some time without a guess, so another hint. The building was built for and still serves governmental functions.

Cook County building?

No, but that is a pretty good guess. Cook County's building is a somewhat similar style, but a bit larger.

Another hint: It is considered a significant example of it's architectural style (Second Empire).

U.S. Custom House and Post Office in St. Louis.

Correct! I was hoping someone would finally get it. I thought the HOK building might help serve as a point of reference for people that don't know what second empire architecture is, but it apparently did not.

I've never been to St. Louis so I've never seen either before. I did have the general area down (midwest - Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, etc)

Gotcha. St. Louis is worth a stop if you're ever in the area. Washington Ave. is a nice area for nightlife and restaurants, there's The Hill for awesome Italian food, Laclede's Landing for the arch/gambling/bars, the zoo and art museum are free and top notch, and it's just a quick drive to North or East St. Louis if you need to dump a body with no questions asked.

I was just looking through these. I am from North County St. Louis, spent the first 17 years of my life there  :mask:
