WRX is my choice.
Probably the most desireable wagon on the market next to the E63.
Rex.

My mom has said the very same thing about Impreza wagons before. Oops, I mean hatchbacks.
Ha, I voted for the A3...

No really, if I could have had an A3 with the 2.0T and AWD I would have had that instead.

Legacy, though it's unavailable in the states, it's my first choice.
WRX, assuming we're talking about the current car and not the gawdawful ugly '08 model.

Explain how this is more of a hatchback:
I'd tend to call the A3 more of a hatch than a wagon, specificallly because it's marketed as a hatch and it's sold as a 3 door. Obviously, though, a car like that can blur the lines.
Although, if you want to define a wagon as a hatchback that has a third section behind the C pillar, then the WRX is a wagon and the A3 is not, but I don't want to get into another definition argument.
EDIT: Found a pic of the 4 door. Now that definitely is one of those that blurs the lines, since there isn't really a C pillar like on the WRX or Magnum.
Quite the dilemma.

Explain how this is more of a hatchback:
The luggage space behind the backseat is so small it may as well be a hatch.

I don't think that matters much.? It's a small wagon, not a Caprice Classic Woody.
Another taker for the WRX here.
I can tell who has kids and who doesn't.
I voted for Magnum. It's a real station wagon.

I think that people over-car when they get the first kid.? You don't need a minivan for one kid.? I mean, sure, a folded up stroller takes up some space, but you can fit that shit in a WRX.? I'm probably going to buy a hawkeye WRX wagon (like Roy's, different color though) when I buy my first house, unless I have a wagon already.? I'll use it mostly for hauling and stuff.?
how can you not take the WRX in that group

how can you not take the WRX in that group
Because it's not the best
station wagon.
Here's my logic:
If the Legacy 2.5GT Limited wagon came with a stick, I would have chosen that, since that is more useful as a wagon and almost as fun as the WRX. However, it doesn't come with a stick.
So that leaves the Mazda6, the A3, and the Magnum.
The A3 isn't a wagon, it's a hatchback, and even less roomy than the WRX. So that's out.
The Mazda6 is very good. Perhaps the best choice here, if it came with a stick. But if I didn't choose the Legacy because it lacked a third pedal, I wasn't going to choose this. So that's out.
That leaves the Magnum. Massively powerful, good looking, and very useful. But it's bigger than I need, still lacks a manual, and the WRX is more nimble. So that's out.

I checked MSN for the current model, and it said automatic was the only transmission offered. So, for this model year, in the United States, it's automatic only.

Sucks to be you.
The Magnum is still a better wagon then all of these.

It's certainly bigger than the WRX, and more powerful than the others. But better...depends on what you desire in a car, I think.
The Mazda, followed closely by the WRX
The A3 to me is definitely a hatch

I want the most utility a wagon can provide me. A WRX does not cut it.

That I agree with. Certainly more practicle than a sedan, but nowhere near the capacity of a Legacy or Magnum, particularly the Magnum.
I wish I had pics of my car loaded with rakes, shovels, a cooler, and a ton of other tools. I've also had a lawnmower in the back of my car with no issues. Point being: Being that the GG is very similar to the GF, I think the Impreza is a very practical wagon for its size.

With the seats up?
Mazda 6. Manual. I like the Dodge, but it would lose a load of money.
A bucket, 2 245/45/18 tires, and a golf bag. In a 350Z :praise:
Legacy
Shoulda thrown the 9-3 sport combi on this one :( Woulda gotton my vote, amazing wagon.
i remember a magnum ad where the buy drags someone from a stoplight unintentionally and then when the other guy asks what's in it, he says, "a guitar, and amp ......" that was awesome.
Subaru Legacy
A3. In the minority here.
