Title: ***Altstadtfest Classic Car Pics***
Post by: cawimmer430 on June 26, 2005, 05:29:43 AM
Yesterday was the annual M?hldorf Altstadtfest (literally translated means "old city festival"). The weather was nice and warm, the girls were half naked, tons of good food and beers and surprisingly, a small classic car show was also on the program! I managed to take these pictures of the classics. I also filled in a ballot in the hopes of winning an Audi TT (which I'll sell and get an SLK / CLK!!!! [:P]) and getting a testdrive in a Ferrari 348 Spider.    B)

Adler, which means "eagle" in English. This was an old German brand in the 1920 and 1930s which dissapeared after World War II if memory serves me right. There were two Adlers there. They had a really aerodynamically advanced car in the mid 1930s which looked similar to the Chrysler Airflow. I have pictures of it in my Amerang car museum album and it's called the Adler 2.5.

An old 1930's Buick! My dad knows the owner of this car. I remember visiting him when I was much younger. The sign on the windshield said the car was a 1930 Buick 8-57 with a 3574cc engine and 73-horsepower.

You're looking at an extremely rare car here. This is a 1936 Mercedes-Benz 170 VA Cabriolet. According to the information on the windshield, only 50 survived World War II. The car was built 794 times between 1936 and 1941. Under the hood is a 1686cc 4-cylinder engine with 38-horsepower. Top speed was 110 km/h (69 mph). Beautiful car! I love these old MB's.

Behind the '36 Benz 170 VA was this classic BMW. I'm not sure what model it was but it looks like a 327 / 328 to me. Anyone know exactly what model this could be? Definitely pre-World War II by the looks of it. Perhaps a 1937 / 39 model.

A Mercedes 170 (or 170D) sedan with the rare Faltdach option (convertible). This was like the Panorama roof of that period.  :praise:

DKW Junior (cute name). This car came with a 741cc and 796cc engine which both produced 34-horsepower but the latter one made more torque. A common sight on German roads between 1959 and 1963 if I recall correctly.

I'm not even sure what year this Mercedes' is but it's very likely that this is a pre-World War II 170 convertible sedan. Notice the suicide doors when the owner exits the car.
