Title: Pictures of my S2000
Post by: BMWDave on October 06, 2007, 05:53:02 PM
So, here are some pictures I took of my S2000.  I went to this scenic overlook, but found that cars can?t go up to the actual overlook, so I took pictures in the parking lot.  Hopefully tomorrow I?ll find a nice scenic place for even more pictures.  Hope you enjoy them!

Awesome, awesome, awesome, awesome.  It's basically brand freaking new!  I love the color.  Have you found the MPH to KMH button yet?

Haha, thanks!  Of course I have, it's awesome!  But I never keep it there for too long, because I always end up going too fast.

She's beautiful. Mind if I sit naked in it in a GTG? I want to be "in contact" with the car. I promise I won't leave any hairs inside.

  Doubtful.  I could take the seat out of the car and then you could sit in it, but I'll still need convincing.

Looks excellent.

I don't know how strict NY is about not having a front plate, but I've been running around without a mandatory front plate on the Z06 for 2 years now in CT.  I think 80% of the Corvettes I see run around without the front plate.

Might want to have your door closing problem looked at.

And do you have the boot for your top?  What are you doing with it?

The boot for the top looks terrible, and I don't think I'll put it on.  Right now it's just being stored.

Thank you! :ohyeah:  I don't think I'd get pulled over, but the car is often parked in NYC, and traffic cops would have an easy time spotting the sports car without the front plate.  Once underway on the road, I doubt I'd get pulled over.

That's an interesting question.  It's not that bad with the top down, but overall, I'd say it's less noisy with the top up.

Interesting.  My car's way louder with the top down (I'm talking engine noise only), and I wasn't sure if that was due to the engine placement.

Was that the thread that was up around 20 pages?

If so i never really went to it, seemed like alot to get caught up on. Also i didn't think it would take anyone that long to buy a car.

I checked the thread out, got caught up for the most part.

So its a slightly used 07 and it looks like you got into it for around 27? Sorry if i'm prying.

Anyway nice ride, good color. I see mention of yellow and i think you'll be much happier not sticking out so much in the silver car. I'm not much of a honda fan, but he S2000 seems like the best choice for the money when it comes to awesome affordable verts. It gives up the turbo compared to the solstice/sky. Its clean and more powerful than a mazda. If reviews are anything to go by the Honda is probobly much more balanced and smooth(in just about every way, very polished mechanicals) than the solstice/sky twins.

Excellent choice.

Thanks! :ohyeah:  It's a slightly used 07 for 27K, yes.  While I wouldn't mind yellow, I think silver is a better choice for the city.  I picked the Honda because it was similar to the Miata while being more substantial.  It doesn't weigh a crazy amount, it has great performance, it's supposed to be a reliable car, and I loved how it drove.

Yup, I joined the forums, and they told me theres a meet tomorrow morning, so I said I'm in!

Hmm, I probably won't mod the car for some time, and I don't want to mess with reliability (some engine mods) since this is a daily driver.  A hardtop is my most likely acquisition in the near future.

I didn't mean performance, i assumed you want to shake it down before messing with mechanicals.

I figured some rims or suspension pieces(lowering Springs), something simple but enough to personalize it.

Well, I think the car is low enough now, it's not like an NC Miata where it rides high and you can lower it a lot.  It's pretty low as is, and I'm worried about scraping already.  I love the stock look, but when I get more familiar with the car, I'll look into mods and all that.  It's a downward slope from there.

Why?  So you can complain about the interior, wish it were an automatic, complain that it's not roomy enough, and say that it's not that much faster than your Intrepid?

Thats cool, i don't see too many S2K around here. I figured the wheel gap was typical, even for a performance car. Both my Z and EVO could use a 1-1.5" drop to eliminate some of that gap.

Downward slope? Tell me about it.

Very, very nice looking!  From pictures, I always liked the blue a lot, but I happened to see one today the same color as yours (you weren't in Albany today, were you ), and I gotta say, that's the color to get!  It looked great.

I'm going to catch some shit for this, but there is something about Hondas.  I miss my old Civic, it just seemed to be more in touch with the road than any other affordable car I've driven.  Great clutch, brilliant shifter, great feedback, and she loved to rev.  I'd imagine the S2000 offers even more of those traits.

Should you find yourself in Albany, I will gladly offer you a night's lodging for a ride in the car.

Again, congrats, and have fun with it!

I dunno... the Civic i drove was really hard to drive.
The Accord was really easy to drive though. I loved it.

The Civic I drove was fine to drive. 93 or 94 sedan. I sucked at driving stick back then and I didn't stall it once.

The S2000 is essentially the definition of these traits. God... the s2k's shifter is significantly better than an E46 M3, which alone is a damn good shifter.

This thread reminds me of the day I spent with my buddy's S2k. He was installing a new headunit for me, but I had some crap to do so he let me take his car. What a great day... His was an older model (can't remember the year) with the 9000 RPM redline. Whee! Same colors as yours too.

Honda shifters in general rock.  With a 6th gear and a few years to upgrade over what I've driven, I'm sure it's a treat to drive.

Thanks everyone!! :ohyeah:  I had my first S2K meet today, and to be honest, I couldn't keep up.  I wasn't about to do 110mph in the Throgs Neck Bridge.  The cop had his radar gun trained at the S2000 convoy, but everyone was going too fast.  Since I was last, I was scared I'd get a ticket.  One guy got pulled over for doing 78mph in a 55.  They were a great bunch of guys, but I kept getting left behind.  Police are really strict, especially in Long Island, but overall, it was a fun experience.

You think that's strict?  Try having a blow party in the parking lot of a police department.

Haha, what was I to do?  To keep up with them would mean going at a consistent 85mph, with bouts up to 110mph, all in a 55mph zone.  I don't want to lose my license, and I don't need my insurance to get any higher.

I wonder if a Porsche 911 group meet would feel the need to speed like that.

I doubt it, Hondave, because most 911 owners are 83 and arthritic. They'd have trouble going past 55mph.

You guys should see the sport bike rides.  You thought 110 was fast?  I'm like yea I'll just take up the rear you guys wait for me at stops signs when we have to turn.

I love the car dave, I'll be sad when my dad trades his in - same as yours but red and 1-2 years older.  Take note that the tires you have are rated to like 12k miles.  Very sticky. :ohyeah:

I wouldn't lower it or anything, that car already handles so nicely and is low enough, it looks gorgeous in stock.  Those are my favorite wheels also.  The cover for the top while it's down (like you were talking about) is pretty dumb looking, exposed top is where it's at.

I hate the blind spot the top makes when it's up.  :(

Thanks!  I agree with everything, the top makes a large blindspot, which is why I try to go sans top whenever I can.  The boot cover looks ridiculous and cheap, and I don't think I'll use it.  Have you ever posted pictures of your dad's car?  All AP2s look the same, but loud colors look nice on the S2K.

If I start autocrossing or doing track days, the tires will probably last even less.  What I'll do is my first autocross/track day, I'll go with stock tires, and then if I start doing this a lot I'll buy an extra set of wheels with slicks (or the Kumho tires that are slicks but somehow street legal).

Out of curioisity, how do you deal with two sets of tires in an s2k?  Tow a dolly with 'em?  Or just change wheels at your house and drive to and from the event with your track tires?

I could change them before I went, or I could put two in the trunk and two in the passenger seat, but that would be pretty hard.  I definitely wouldn't tow a dolly with them in the S2000.

I have somewhere, I'll see if I can dig them up.  I would say start autoX or track with the stocks to get a feel, then decide to buy w/e after that.

You would either have to get a little trailer and hitch, drive with them on or bring a second car.

The perk of the Viggen is I can fit all 4 tires in my trunk :ohyeah:  the hatchback!

The traffic wasn't light on some parts - it included lots of weaving in and out of traffic.  I'm not comfortable driving like that.  If I go on a meet again, I'll take a GPS, meet them at the stop points, and then just let them drive ahead of me.

I think my best bet will be to buy an extra set of wheels, jack up each tire one at a time, and put them on before I head out.  I would incur a lot more wear on the tire (slicks would pick up everything), but it's the only alternative I can see.  I could buy a dolly and use the Land Rover to tow the S2000 to a track day/autocross, but that seems an awfully large amount of hassle.

Driving with your slicks to the event creates a lot of $$$ on wear and replacement, however it obviously depends how far you have to go.  Here in MN the drive is usually substantial.

Check your car because there may be points in the front and back where you can jack up 2 tires at one time.

Have you ever been on 495 eastbound? Usually, it's not bad, and you can keep up a constant speed of 75-80.

Falken RT-615's are pretty nice tires... they are treaded so they are streetable but once they warm up they are much closer then alot of or maybe any street tires to slicks in terms of grip.... Falken sells them as sort of a track/street hybrid tire (and they are not too expensive either)

... great for auto-x and can easily stand up to track days

Just checked up on those, they don't seem so expensive.  It would cost me around 450 dollars for a set of 4 if I kept the stock sizes.  Not too bad at all.  How many track days or autocrosses do you think a tire like that would last?
Title: Re: Pictures of my S2000

I looked up some wheels for my car.  Assuming I keep all sizes stock (and I don't see a reason to change), I'd probably go for these wheels:

They're 13 lbs at the front, so pretty lighteweight, and it costs just under $800 dollars for a set.

Alternatively, I was thinking, it would probably be cheaper to just track and autocross using ultra high performance street tires and my current wheels.  They have wear ratings far in excess of any track compound, and when they wear out, I'll replace the tires for 450 a set.  That would probably be a lot cheaper than buying new wheels and getting track, or even street, tires  on new wheels.

yea, they are nicely priced... i heard of a few people getting around 8,000 miles of street use on them with a couple track events thrown in... not sure how many that qualifies as though

they won the all out street comparo now a couple years in a row in either grassroots motorsports or sport compact car... can't remember which at the moment
