Anyone know anything about debadging?
The "ES" emblem on my trunk is peeling, and I want to replace it with the badge in my avatar. Thing is, they're hard to come by and it might be a few months before I get out to a yard to bother tracking one down. How can I safely take off the ES badge without damaging the paint?
For reference, the badge on the top right of the trunk

I don't know why you would put that badge on your car, it would look out of place and ricey, but if you must, check out eBay. They are somewhat reasonable.

A few late Intrepids came with that badge on it from the factory.
Heat gun on low, and a piece of fishing line.
Hairdryer it?

Thanks. I don't fish, so I'll borrow some of that from my neighbor. I guess it'll be better to wait until it warms up to do this.
It's not the badge itself peeling, my mistake, it's the chrome on the badge. Essentially the top of the "S" is black now.
I'd probably justy pull it off with my fingers. I've never seen paint come off with a badge before. After that use a glue remover that's clearcoat safe and a plastic razorblade.

I've seen it come off. I got "ES" badges for my front door sills that I never put on off a car at the junkyard, and they peeled the paint right off.
Must be either cheap paint then, I've pulled them off cars at work and never had a problem.

+2.
Also, having a handy credit card and some Goo Gone aren't bad ideas, either.
Pop the "MY" off of the Camry and make it say "MY CAR"
Paint it gold and park the car in a bad neighborhood. That badge will be gone in a heartbeat. :rastaman:
Hairdryer and dental floss...
I hope the new badge will cover the entire area too because the paint has probably faded ever so slightly around it.

I doubt it.
I have always used the heat gun to get most of it off.
The rest you can take off with "goo gone" and a rag.

Camry's badge is one big thing. Not individual letters.

That's what a diagonal cutter is for.
Intrepid GT-R anyone?

Honestly, I'd remove every badge from the rear of that car. Maybe the "Intrepid" could stay.
That's just way too small of a space to try and squeeze four large chrome badges into.
The letters from "Intrepid" and "Chrysler" can be mixed up to spell "Insipid" :P

Does it bug anyone else that Camry is written at an angle?

+100000
If there once was a badge on a car, but it was taken off years ago, leaving some goo behind, what's a good product that will take the shit off without harming the paint? Im hesitant to try some of my marine-grade stuff...

It's on the same plane as the slope of the tail light. I think it'd look worse if it was perfectly level and sitting right next to the angled light.

You could have just said 'parallel'. :tounge:

HOK KC-10 wax and grease remover.

Seriously though, the only time I removed an emblem I used a heat gun and wiggled it until it came off and it worked fine. From what I've seen/touched up, Dodge (I can't speak for Chrysler, but it's likely) uses some really brittle, unimpressive paint. Every damn thing causes chips in the paint on the Dakota, and it's paint looks great and has been garage or carport kept it's entire life. It's frustrating.
