Why
wouldn't they? :loopy:
Nissan's marketers want to be as cool as Volkswagen's with the obscure nomadic tribe references.

Wouldnt ya want something that people will be able to pronounce easily... at least, they may remember something so odd...

which is what i think the point of the name was. Because the styling seems pretty bland IMO.

most Iranians will be able to pronounce it easily enough.

It might seem bland from pictures but it's not in real life.

I agree. The Qashaqi is my favorite of the mini SUVs.

I think the rogue looks OK. the front maybe not so much, but the rest of the car is pretty good looking. Beats looking at the CRV.

Well, he works for Nissan now, so he tends to like all of them all of a sudden.

Not true. I don't care for a lot of Nissans. I'm no fan of the new Murano, for example. And I don't like the Tiida at all.

The Tiida is terrible.
The front and hood resemble the M-B ML500. Otherwise, it looks alright. The name is stupid though.

Its a fun word to say though, especially the way they pronounced it on the promotional video Nissan had on its Japanese site, "TI-i-thuh".
I believe wholeheartedly that the name Qashqai is actually code Nissan's French masters are using to communicate with their fellow axis-of-evil members in Iran. Every time a Nissan Qashqai is sold, the extremists who hate us have won.
I would call it the Nissan Derka Derka

That has to be slang for some sort of sexual act in some language somewhere.

Quote from: Urban Slang Dictionary
1. In the card game of Hearts, the "Derka" is the Queen of Spades. Usually, the short phrase "Derka, Derka, Derka" sung in lowering intervals as in the first three notes of the Mario - Dungeon theme, when the Derka is dropped on another player.
2. When used in singular form, can refer to the game of Hearts itself.
3. Sweet Derka in your mouth. Need I say more?
1.
Jeff: "Derka, Derka, Derka."
Phillip: "Derka, Derka, Derka."
Daniel: "Derka, Derka, Derka."
Drayton: "Oh shit!"
Jeff: "Derka'd!"
2. "Let's hit up some Derka, shall we?"
3. "Mmm...you like that, sweet derka all over your face."
I knew it!

I stated earlier my opinion that "derka derka" had to be slang for a sexual position or act in some language, somewhere. Raza in his infinite foresight looked up the word on urbanslangdictionary.com, revealing that yes, in fact "derka derka" has sexual connotations, therefore vindicating me. :praise:

Have you got the Tiida in the UK yet? I heard Nissan was finally going to sell it in Western Europe (Eastern Europe already has it) and I know it just went on sale in Germany. The hatch looks nice but the saloon is awful!

No, Tiida is not on sale in the UK. It has recently been launched in some Western European markets such as Germany, though.
I agree that the saloon is awful, and I wouldn't go so far as to say the hatch is nice! It's ok at the rear, but every time I see the nose, I think how awkward it looks.
Maybe if I drive one it will redeem itself

The hatch has more than a hint of Renault Megane to it, which is probably why I think it looks somewhat decent. I didn't like the Tiida/Versa hatch at first but it seems to be growing on me. I assume you will be getting it in the UK soon?

I doubt it will be sold in the UK. I might be wrong, though.
