Title: They stole my fucking stereo right on the street.
Post by: sportyaccordy on May 22, 2009, 07:31:55 AM
What is this, 1984? They took my headunit, subwoofer and amp. What the fuck man, $250 down the drain. I think I know who did it too but I can't prove it. I can't wait to move out of this fucking ghetto.

Wow, reading that made me mad too! I hope you or someone catches these fuckers and makes them pay (and I don't mean with money).

You're making me all excited to move to NYC -- which is probably going to happen really soon.  Yippy!

Good luck recovering your stolen stereo, Sporty.

I never had any problems till I moved to this neighborhood. Stick to the gentrified areas and you will be fine.

They stole your stereo out on the street and this surprises you?  A friend of mine had his stereo stolen out of his car parked in his driveway with motion sensor lights, half a mile from the police station, twice in a period of a couple of months.

Yikes. This happened to my brother's old S13 coupe out in the OC suburbs a few years ago.

I'm thinking it has almost as much to do with the fact that thieves target cars that are easy to break into as the type of neighborhood you're in.

Yea my driver's side window was cocked. I don't care so much about the headunit as I do the sub and amp, I had been looking for that amp for YEARS. And I have been parking on the street for about a year and a half now on and off; coupled with my girlfriend's bike being stolen here things are not looking good.

This is why people should be able to shoot thieves.

Crime would drop...sharply.

Stick some razor blades inside your door handles.  Teach 'em a lesson they'll NEVER forget!!!

Sorry to hear it sporty.  That sucks.

You're in Crown Heights, right?  That is a pretty crappy area.  I hope you move to a better area soon.  Though this type of shit happens all over, the odds are less in a better area, plus you have more personal safety.

Brooklyn varies by the block. I loved my neighborhood about 3 blocks away. We are in the ghetto now. Moving here was a mistake.

Most cities are like that.  Certain blocks are 'demarcation' lines.  That just doesn't exist to the same extent in the suburbs where I live.  I understand what you mean; ghetto living would not work for me at all.

Lights used to be the residents best friend because when a light turned on it meant that someone was looking outside. But with the advent of motion sensor lights it just means that there is a motion sensor light on which no one in the world pays attention to and the lowlife theives have adjusted to them.  Now, they only serve to help the scumbag see what he is stealing.

Sorry to hear about your stereo, Sporty.  I have an old GM radio from a few years back I would be willing to mail you.
Seriously, it would get it out of my garage!

It's sort of like car alarms.  Nobody pays any attention to them, especially in a high crime neighborhood.  A car alarm would probably be somewhat effective in my neighborhood.  But in Brooklyn?  Fugeddaboutit....[New York guido term]

I am debating getting a stock radio w/aux input just to sell the car with. But they cost MORE than a less used aftermarket unit plus they have worse sound quality. However, I can get one in a double DIN size and since it's an OEM radio it's a lot less likely it will get stolen. Dunno what to do

Most aftermarket receivers have removable faces nowadays, eh?

Yea, the one they took did. I have one lying around... it just needs an internal fuse replace, but it doesn't have an aux input. I'll prob. just trade that for one that does.

I had my stereo stolen out of my Accord when it was parked in a Red Cross parking lot a good 300 feet off of the street. Crack is whack.

I think I actually have an OEM car for your Accord. I can't guarantee it works though.

Your radio has different plugs, but that's minor... wiring it up would be no different than doing an aftermarket setup. I could get your H/U with an aux input which is probably what I'm going to do.

OLD SCHOOL TIP: Next time go to a welder and have them weld nice sized chain (maybe 20 inches) to the inside of the trunk lid. Then weld a second piece to the floor of the trunk.Secure them with the biggest pad lock you can afford. Just make sure you can get to the lock when you "pop" the trunk. The chain will keep the trunk from opening far enuff (it'll also abstuct smaller items) for the crooks to get anything out.
