Title: Cars you hate with a passion!
Post by: 2o6 on March 23, 2010, 05:54:00 PM
These cars aren't necessarily bad, but something has happened to make you hate them.

My nomination:

S13 240SX.

I am so tired of the ricers who have no imagination and buy a rusted out S13 with a primered and bondoed Silvia facia in hopes to make a SilEighty. In reality, they have a meidocre RWD coupe that is useless in snow, rusts if you look at it wrong, and is generally cramped.

Everytime I see one, I just want to take a brick to the windshield.

Next car:

2000-Death Cavalier.

Seriously, WHY did you buy this car!? It clearly is the old one with an ugly nose and those same old as ever mechanicals. You really didn't notice that it drives terribly and a comparable Civic or even Elantra were much better cars?

You are an idiot. The Silvias all handled well above average.

Now I won't argue that this is a shitty shitty car, but rebates + price + cheap parts make it a relatively economical choice. Esp. if you bought one used.

Weren't that bad in the snow, either.  I drove one year round... in Upstate NY... without snow tires.

They weren't that cramped, either.  No moreso than a Celica, Integra, or Eclipse of that time period.  Hell, I think it was roomier than the current Camaro in every way but cabin width.  Definitely more headroom, despite the Camaro being a full half a foot taller.

That's a good car. It was the only one from Japan back then in that class that was RWD here in the US. While you feel that some of the people who have them are a little off, it's not fair to hold that against the car.

I don't really have time to hate a car anymore. I can list some that I'd never own or can't stand working on.

Any Dodge. Why? Every person I've known who had one had lots of problems. I'm talking big problems like having 3 transmissions in less than 4 years.I don't trust them.
Ford Ranger and Mazda B trucks that are nothing bu Rangers. Why? I can't stand the way they drive. I know it's a truck and not a Lexus but even by small truck standards it's bad. Even worse with the twin I-beam. I also can't stand working on them.
1980's and 90's Mustangs. Why? I can't stand working on them. I found them cheaply made. The convertibles are a joke. Try working on a frame that bends when you look at it wrong.
Solstice and Sky. Why? No logical reason. I think they are both ugly. I think the tops are a joke. And it's probably just like a Mustang fan not liking a Camaro. An MX-5 person just won't like them.

Nissan Versa

I don't care how many accolades you give it, it's dull and ugly. It's the reason the US can't have nice things. We keep buying dull cars like these.

Buick Century
(http://www.automedia.com/NewCarBuyersGuide/photos/2005/Buick/Century/Sedan/2005_Buick_Century_ext_1.jpg)

I didn't think it was possible to be this geriatric.

Chevrolet Lumina

It looks nice, but the rest isn't that nice. I hate them moreso because my parents and brother thinks that they're good cars. They want me to get some sort of GM midsizer.

I despise the Toyota Corolla with a passion. I have to keep my mouth shut around a lot of people I know because they have Corollas and love them, and just once I'd love to tell them my honest feelings about the Corolla. It's the most boring, overrated car in the world. The only reason people buy them is the reputation of the Toyota brand, which may not seem more loathsome than, say, someone buying a BMW, but the guy buying a beemer is flaunting wealth while a guy driving a Corolla likes to think they're smarter than the average bear for buying such a dependable car.
Title: Re: Cars you hate with a passion!
Post by: 93JC on March 23, 2010, 09:34:10 PM
I also hate the Corolla because the interior quality is mediocre and it drives like a Camry, which is about as close to a stereotypical wallowy '70s land yacht as you can get these days.

I hate the Matrix/Vibe too, for most of the same reasons as the Corolla and the added bonus of having awful seating and ergonomics.

Have you driven a car with the KA?  It's slow to rev, runs out of steam early in the rev range, rough, and not terribly fuel efficient.  That being said, it's very robust, reliable, and inexpensive to keep running.  But it's not a hi-po motor.

I hate the Hummer H2 for reasons that are plainly obvious (minus the eco-weenie shit).

I also *dislike* the Prius for reasons that also are plainly obvious. But mostly because of their stereotypical owners. Finding out that they don't know how to stop their cars is just icing on the cake.

I have cars that are not my favorites, but I can't picture hating any car as a brand or model. Now, individual examples, especially mistreated ones that you are trying to fix and nothing fits properly or comes off like it's supposed to, yeah (and sometimes I think the world would be a better place if engineers had to work on or repair the crap they've engineered...). I've had individual examples of cars that I ended up hating, and other examples of the same car that I thoroughly enjoyed.

And all cars have potential. How they arrive in mass produced, compromised production form is just a starting place.

Also I'd NEVER use what some owners are like as a reason to dislike (or like) a car. That's just stupid.

I can't say I really HATE too many cars.  So few anyway that I can only think of two.  The rest I'm just indifferent to.

Toyota Yaris
I really do fucking hate this car.  I hate everything about it.  I hate it so much I was drove it as fast I could one day just to get to my destination and get out.  Unfortunately I was stopped by a cop who asked why I was going so fast and I told him, "I fucking hate this car and I can't wait to get out".  I guess he had never heard that one before because he let me go with a warning and a laugh.  I was serious though.

The single cams were kind of gutless.  The twin cam in the '91 wasn't bad, especially when compared to other, similar cars on the market at that time.  It was still kind of course and thrashy sounding north of 5K RPM and it still fell flat about 1000 rpm shy of redline, but the power was decent.

The Yaris sucks hugely.  I mean, it's a decent little car, but it just sucks.  There's no driving engagement, there's no brake feel, no steering feel, no feel of anything.  And the center mounted gauges are stupid.  It is fairly roomy on the inside, though.

This is because the Versa is a bomb-ass little car. Every Yaris I've ever driven smells funny...and I don't think it has anything to do with past renters because they all smell the same.

Honda CRV.

Millions love this vehicle. To me , especially the current model, it epitomizes the generation when Honda decided that its once scrappy little car division has decided to go vanilla on the world. It's well built, spacious and good fuel economy for its size, but its soooooooooooooo blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand. The mindset is leaking into other cars in the lineup now too. The older model CRV's ( and a few others ) just feel like they have more life to them. Even with much less power.

In fact I can't stand most of the lower powered A3s, they smack of someone buying a car solely for the badge.

A Mitsubishi Eclipse-based Dodge Stratus coupe, 2001-2006 generation. There definitely is a lot of GTO in the roofline now that you mention it.

As Iffy said, it's a Dodge Stratus. I drove a friend of mine's, and it was pretty much a heaping pile of shit. Of course, he likes it, so I didn't tell him that.

Some of the most wretched driving I've seen in the past few years has been from folks driving these. They are the official SUV of Morons That Don't Have A Clue. That, and they are really nasty looking, like a taller Dodge Caliber.

Well they have plastic panels that get very brittle over time bolted together with bolts and J-nuts that rust like they've been in the ocean. So when you try and take it apart then things just snap left and right. I have to say that it's just shit. Only way you can work on anything in the inside of the door is to take the outer panel off and not the interior one like a normal car. So after a few years it's almost impossible to work on. That and they just feel so fucking cheap.

Well, the GLK has ~100 more HP and probably doesn't drive like shit (I've heard the CR-V does).

Now, replace "Honda CR-V" with "Kia Sorento" and you have a good point.

No hate... just cars I wouldn't consider buying, even at a huge discount:

Honda Accord, all Acuras. I used to love them, but the styling offends me on all these cars.
All Toyotas. Except for the FJ and Tacoma and Tundra trucks.
All Lexuses (Lexii?) Rather any comparable Audi or BMW, or Infiniti.
Hyundai Genesis Coupe. Great car, hate the styling, Mustang eats it.
Dodge Sebring/Avenger and Caliber. Ugh.
Jeep Compass. The other Jeeps, including the Patriot, I like.
BMW 1 series. Overpriced pot-bellied pig.
All Lincolns. Much prettier/better cars for the money.
Most Nissans, except the 370z and Maxima. Love the Infinitis.
Ford F-series trucks. Never liked them. Not sure why.

I couldn't agree more. I like how it takes a lot of its styling cues from the GINA concept, but starting at $46,000 is WAY too much for a non-turbo model, even if it has a folding hardtop.

That said, it's more of an SLK/Boxter competitor than SL/XK. The SL starts at over $100k and the XK starts at $83k.

Seriously, WHY did you buy this car!? It clearly is the old one with an ugly nose and those same old as ever mechanicals. You really didn't notice that it drives terribly and a comparable Civic or even Elantra were much better cars?

Yeah, it seems every Cavalier I see (or hear) sounds like crap.

I've never been a fan of Dodge (sorry, fans--I'm sure you don't like a lot of brands).  Most Chrysler products have that same ticky-sounding hum when they get going.  What the hell is that?  Basically, if I'm not looking, and I hear it, I know it's a Chrysler product.  Not that it makes it a bad vehicle, really, I guess.
