I'm going to be driving up to MD from GA (via SC, NC & VA) with a shotgun. It is broken down, boxed, taped & in gift wrapping paper. Is there going to be problem with breaking any laws, or ordinances?
Wondering also if I can also transport other firearms (couple of handguns & a rifle). My son, who is active duty military, wants his stuff.

Generally, if you transport a firearm with the action/bolt/cylinder open, in a locked container, without ammunition, and immediately inaccessable to the vehicle's occupants, you'll find yourself in compliance with the law pretty much anywhere. This doesn't apply if you enter the socialist enclaves of Washington DC, Chicago, or the entire state of California where thinking about possessing a firearm will result in immediate execution and you body will be burned in effigy.

Said shotgun was duly transported and is now in the hands of its new (& very happy) owner.

Perfect gift, and an heirloom his great-great-grandkids can proudly display 150 years from now.
