I find those '71 Oldsmobiles so sexy. The kitsch all over that car was so acceptable and "in" in those days. That's what makes the "attention to detail" IMO. Today those kinds of features on cars would never be included for all sorts of reasons, notably "weight" and "design". How times change.
You're so lucky you get to see those cars sometimes!
I've only see the sedan and convertible and a Buick version at a classic car show and I freaked out. So sexy those thing! :praise:
Hehe, my dad's first car was a '72 Delta 88 4-door sedan.
A friend of my mother's had an Oldsmobile Delta 88 from that era. A 1973 model, I think. At the time, I remember thinking it was a better car than our shitty 1974 Ford LTD (not a difficult achievement) because it didn't seem to break down as much.

I never thought we were very "lucky" on all those occasions when that piece of shit refused to start! That '74 LTD seemed to be particularly allergic to rain because if there was even a drop of moisture in the sky that damn car wasn't going anywhere! This was also the same car that shot flames through the carburettor and once caught on fire!
Lucky? Me? Really?!?!? :nutty:
Those '71s are hot as hell. omg

I think Wimmer should have a youtube channel where someone gives him $1,000 to buy a 1970's American car, and stage a series of challenges to complete. One of those challenges would have to be "drive the car to a destination 100 miles away", and another challenge should be "drive the car one lap around a durability course on a proving ground"

How come you don't like this car? It's a 1971 Oldsmobile, not that late 1970s and 1980s stuff. This car should theoretically still be of good quality. And it looks absolutely stunning if you ask me. Give me the sedan, wagon, coupe and convertible! :praise:

I love the "Boat Tail" Buick Riviera. Gorgeous car. But appaently the American public didn't like it. Even the designer of this masterpiece, Bill Mitchell, had to defend the design from heavy criticism.

Meh, tastes change over time. The 55' Bel Air was considered ugly when it came out, and now it's a classic staple of American car design.

My mother's father worked for GM and they had a '55 Bel Air in the garage as well as a 1967 Pontiac Parisienne Sedan. I prefer the '57 Bel Air, though. When I hear the word "Chevrolet Bel Air" I always think of the '57.

No, he owned that while he was in college (around 1978). The car is long gone, it was replaced with a 1976ish Toyota Celica. He had the Celica when I was born, but I don't remember it.

Another one of my favorites is the Dodge Magnum Coupe. Love the curvacious and yet stately lines on this car. The grille is also unique and overall I love the flow of this thing. The front, especially the lights, remind me of the Dodge St. Regis, another beauty from that era when everyone had mushroom hair styles and long jeans. I think this car is one of those forgotten classics. People know it exists subconsciously. It's sort off like the Mercedes C107 SLC: people always lust after the R107 SL but have totally forgotten the SLC version.

Not at all really: the torque steer is quashed into remission by the steering gear. I had a '75 Eldorado: not nearly as cool as that '68, but the same drivetrain.
Yep, its the ol' 472, and later the 500 (8.2 liter).
