2009 Infiniti G37 Convertible w/Premium package y los mucho grande wheelos
21k miles
Paint: Pacific Sky (blueish silver), interior: white leather
I opted for a 5yr/75k mi warranty too - the complexity of the hardtop is kind of spooky to me. O_o

LOL TRUNK
I'm already thinking "WTF am I going to do with these wheels/tires in the winter?!"
Nice. A 'SPIN G trifecta we have.
Yeah, you'll need some all-season tires for winter if you plan on driving in snow, and 19" are gonna cost - probably cheaper to go with a 17" wheel/tire combo actually.
Congrats!
Between Miatas and now G37's, we should just rename this place G37/MiataSPIN.
Miata G-spot.
CONGRATS!!!!
(Yeaaaaaaa buddy!)
I took it for a spin around town, but at my first stoplight six cop cars whizzed by at full speed and randomly pulled off into other areas. My planned fun drive around the hills flogging the car at WOT was then downgraded to a leisurely cruise.
Congrats man. Welcome to the club.
Afty is part of the club too! I think we have a foursome going on.
Congrats yo!
It looks beautiful. I'm happy you bought the mostest funnest version.
But man, those sidewalls have got to go.

And that's one of the reasons I hate hardtop convertibles. It's either carry cargo or enjoy top down driving, you can't have both.
Anyway, let's race. Quarter mile, but you have to put the top down first before setting off.

At least a 2+2 like the G will let you throw some stuff in the back seat.

True, but that also means that you either have to put the top up every time you park or leave someone with the car. I lock everything in the trunk whenever I leave the car, top up or down.
Yeah, I hate retractable hardtops for that very reason. I'm so happy Mustang is still a soft top.

Correct. Who's Philip? Add Rich to the Miata list too.
Good cars but the interior rattles and squeaking are getting to me a bit. The center console is squeaking like a canary. I'm going in for my 30k service soon and will have 'em look at that and some of the others.
Imagine how the interior rattles must be in a creaky flexy convertible.
It's not bad right now, and I have a pretty high tolerance for them, coming from Honda products and a Miata.
Onslaught, that other guy (E-type guy??), Rich, and myself are the only official Scooty Puff Jr. Miata owners. Rags has fake-Miata RX-8 rebody :P
For winter tires I'd just get some cheapo alloy 16s and a battery powered impact gun. Easy enough to change out as our winter vacillates between frozen horror and weeks of annoying high-40s blah.
Also whore moo
I see you bought at Kirkland. Didn't have a good feel there, esp. in the used side of the business. I went to Kuni and it was much better.

I forgot about Rich keeping the Miata.
Afty has one
Car of the Month.
I need to hurry up and get a Miata to bring balance to the force.

I think you're having problems hardly anyone else has. I don't have any of the rattles or squeaking you complain about. Neither do two others that I know personally who own a 2011 G37 coupe and a 2010 G37x sedan.

lol. ALL G forums are all loaded up with complaints; simply Google "G37 interior rattles." It's a very common complaint with the 2nd gen G (and Nissans in general), and one of the few reasons it's relegated at best to "near luxury."

That was my first question. Cougs, you can look up anything and find some links, but that doesn't mean it's widespread. I haven't had any rattles at all. Not one. No squeaks either, and neither have the two others that I know with G37s.
Congrats on the G convertible! I still have fond memories of getting to drive my parents G35 half a dozen times. I imagine the newer G37's are even more fun.

Yeah, but cougs search seems to have come up with G37/some G35 topics. Your link has multiple generations of the 3 series, plus links to 1-series and 5-series forums with rattle complaints so obviously there would be more hits.
It's a dumb way to prove a dispute either way, because it's not actually finding 341k results; the counts are just extrapolations.
All I can add to this conversation is that my SO's parents have an FX-35 that is an objective POS.
My car rarely rattles at all 7 years in. Only the cup holders, which are pieces of crap.

My operative point is that all G37 forums have many many threads related to interior rattles and noises; so, not an exercise in extrapolation but of aggregation of concensus ;).
I'm loving the power. Used responsibly, it comes in handy in traffic. Used irresponsibly, it's loud and really fun.
I'm looking forward to scaring the piss out of my dad with WOT in a few days. Gas guzzling is anathema to him.
Nice choice, Kevin....... Not driven the convertible version, but I did rent the G37 sedan and the previous model G35, and thought that they were both excellent cars. Enjoyed the rorty sounding engine, which made just the right amount of noise without being so loud as to annoy you, and (the stuff about rattles not withstanding) the interior is nicely done.
I think you chose wisely getting this over a MINI - your back will welcome the decision!

The thrust from a dead stop can be very surprising. This morning I tried launching from a dead stop with my foot on the gas and the brake and sidestepping the brake pedal. Damn. I wasn't prepared for it and my head hit the headrest.

I love this car. And, now that I've lost 25 lbs (3" from my waist and 6" from my stomach) in the last two months I also fit in the sport buckets almost perfectly and they're way more comfortable now.
C'mon, guys. They're sorta quick but they're not that quick. In fact I don't think they're quick enough given 330 hp and 7sp AT; should be quicker IMO and I think some of that could be solved with gearing; gears 1 and 2 should be somewhat shorter, Gears 3 and 4 gears should be noticeably shorter, and then slot an additional gear between 4 and 5. I go WOT every time I'm in it, and I'm not necessarily doing breakneck speeds.
Supposedly, the 335i is quicker.

Nah; Craig's is an AWD sedan too. Plus, the AWD model isn't too much slower than the RWD model (5.0/5.2 vs. 5.3/5.4 0-60 and 13.5/13.6 vs. 13.7/13.8 1/4 mile). Lastly, the Nissan AWD converts to RWD not long after launch and thereafter only reverts to AWD based on the stability/traction issue.

There is a TSB for A/T reprogramming to fix that and other shifting issues. I'll be taking my car in to get the flash in a few weeks as I have some issues too. I had a G25 as a service loaner and it was far better if not perfectly smooth in its downshift revving WRT the G37.
Sure the first couple of gears are already fairly short but then again it's a 3,850 (G37x sedan) - 4,100 lb (G37 'vert) car with a 7,600 rpm motor...

Not big, I only have a ~300mi range.
The sedan has a relatively huge 20 gallon tank easily giving a 375 mile range (400 if I'm laying off city driving). It's great.

I had to go to the store at lunch so I checked it out. 1st gear hits the rev limiter at ~32 mph and 2nd hits the limiter at ~52 mph. I don't think they need to be any shorter.
Congrats on the new ride!

Looks like I have 20 gallons too, I'm just driving like an idiot.
The best I've done so far is 470 miles on one tank, but it was all highway with no stopping and no big hills and I was limited to 50 mph. Mostly we get about 375 miles per tank, though I have had a couple tanks in the 16 mpg range.

I want to take some pictures of it down by the water, but the sun is so far down on the horizon by the time I get off work... the car would look like a silhouette.
Nice - watch out for the front air dam though! I've had a few close calls already...
So Laconian, is this your car? Is the Accord gone already?
How does your BF feel about being relegated to the slow Acura PowerPlenum waggin?
The Accord will be gone in a few days. The Acura is fine for him, it's not slow, just not really fast, either. Not that it even matters; his commute involves loafing through gridlock at 0-5mph anyways.
Ouch, I can see why you guys got rid of your manual transmission vehicle(s). Isn't Seattle also kind of hilly? Driving through SF in rush hour was a pain in the ass in the Miata as well due to assholes who like to stick to your rear bumper, which means you can't roll back at all.

Seattle's highways aren't super hilly, but I90 turns into hills and then mountains if you drive east for at least 30 minutes. But yeah, traffic can be crappy, think rush hour on Highway 101.

It benefits from not having gigantic stoopit rear headrests like most German cars seem to.

Yeah, there was kind of a life changing event in the middle that you're not keeping in mind. I can't enjoy a car that ruins the rest of my day with back pain.
This car is a nice compromise between sport and comfort. And it's really not that far off in terms of sport, either - I drove a bunch of cars, from Mustangs to 128s to 335s, and this holds its own.

Those are the stories I usually use. My back pain, personally, came from deciding to lift a boat trailer after my friend couldn't position it properly at the ramp. The boat trailer kinda kicked my ass (well, actually, my back...).

The burgerking drivethru near work is on a hill, when people are first coming up behind me I make it a point to roll back some. They keep their distance the rest of the stop/go to the window.

Btw I've learned its best to work west of where you live. Sun is at my back on the way to work and going home.
Army regulations say we must bear our head gear at all times outside but not in a vehicle, including convertibles.

Yeah that's why he said the opposite.
My company relocated me to an office 12 miles east of where I live, and the afternoon sun sucks, but at least the traffic isn't as bad, in this particular case, as the other way around. Besides, it definitely beats my previous 40-mile (one-way) train commute.
I have a 4.8 mile commute that is mostly north-south.
This is also why I don't care about silly things like fuel economy. ;) Whorrrrrahhhh!

haha good catch. I mean east of work, or have your work west of home.
Car is broken in on the backroads. Car was comfortable and exciting at the same time. I hit fuel cutoff in 3rd a few times. Manumatic shifting isn't as immediate as I would hope. :(
The soundtrack to our country road romp was Crystal Method's Vegas.
Manual shifting definitely is approximate. I find shifting at 7,000 rpm at the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts gets me a shift point right at 7,500 rpm (red line for you non-G owners). Thing I find is I find the first two gears so fast I have to concentrate almost fully on shifting at 7,000 rpm distracting me from driving.
Under WOT I have to hit my paddle before 7000 or else I hit the fuel cutoff. Downshifting is far more immediate. The Mustang I'm driving this weekend in SF shifts right fucking now when you hit the rocker switch on the shifter (rocker switches are fucking stupid by the way). It is very immediate.
The DS mode is pretty decent. I like how it blip-downshifts as you brake to go around corners so the car is primed to accelerate again.

He's not a slow driver by any means. He'll generally go 70-75 and gets irritated if I don't go at least 70 on the highway, but anything faster than that he gets irritated as well, and he never likes accelerating hard or turning hard.
My dad's an unnecessarily aggressive driver, yet he feels uncomfortable going WOT.

The more I drive the G37, the more I love it. I just drove home from Bellingham tonight. It took 4.5 hours and this car just eats up the miles at 80 mph and the cockpit is just such a nice place to spend time driving. The sport seats are sooooo comfortable and supportive (though it did take me about 2 months before I found the perfect settings), and the steering is just so dead on and just the right amount of feedback. We drove down to Bellingham on Thursday night and drove back today. We have to go over two pretty high mountain passes in each direction and I averaged 57 mph (including in town driving on both ends of the trip) and we got 24.25 mpg for the round trip.
On a side note, we drove a 2013 Mustang V6 convertible all day Saturday in the Napa Valley and the steering in the G37 is much better. Much better. The Mustang's was too light but very quick with a little less feedback than I would have liked. I got used to it by the end of the day, but when we got back and I jumped in the G, the steering was just so much better. The Mustang GT vert I drove earlier this year was closer to the G than the V6 was, but it was still a little on the light side. Apparently there is a way to change the steering feel, but I don't know how to do that.
Oh and I saw a white G37 down there with a black roof and it looked pretty badass. I think I might do it.
I love Bellingham! That's where I went to college. I plan on making a trek up there sometime in the next couple weeks, perhaps when the leaves start turning colors around Mt Baker.

I am going to drive to Bellingham this weekend, and maybe further on to Mt. Baker. It'll be a great way to see off this Indian summer.

That's my boyfriend, you guys.
still expected more Sheldon Cooper.
which is a compliment, means he doesn't look uber-geek. Even though he has a geek job.
We actually just bought one of those Bretagne striped shirts, while we were in La Baule. I told him that it would look ridiculous outside of France, but... :P
I sincerely doubt it will be worn until our next trip next year.
I had to Google it.
Hmm... I haven't actually seen Big Bang theory before. :mask:

Car is only +$100/yr more expensive to ensure than the Acura, and a mere +$200 than the Accord, despite being a car with three times the residual value and almost three times the horsepower. I was bracing myself for much worse thanks to the bogus cost of ownership calculators.
That's awesome. Love it when that happens.
The joys of being old and boring. My commute is also so short that we can say that the G37 is "low mileage" (8k mi max). That takes it down by a lot too.
Yep, when I first bought my Cooper S the insurance was $900/6mo... when I had the Miata and first bought the Mustang it was about $960/6mo for two cars. And now with the Miata and me just getting old it's el-cheapo
When did you get the Cooper S?
2005, when I was 22. Figured it'd be cheap since it's an economy car, but when I was car shopping and got estimates back I was like holy WTFBBQ
LLLOLLL
Those insurance calculators might be calibrated for 22 year olds.
The insurance on the Miata for me as the primary driver, with the car's title in my name, is as much as the 7 series for my mom as her being the primary driver with the car's title in her name.

I'll bet Miatas don't do much damage to other cars when they do trade paint.
I was referring to Rags' mother not being charged much on the BMW, which of course is always in the shop.
My insurance only went up $4 a month from the Jetta to the Z4. Laugh out loud at young people driving up Jetta crash rates. It's why 911s are cheaper to insure than S2000s, no doubt. The S2000 would have been almost $70 more. The MX-5 $30 more.

My car really acquitted itself well during the drive. Getting to Bellingham was about an hour and a half of freeway driving, then a combination of windy scenic wooded and country roads. The highway portions were easy and relatively stress free compared to the Miata. I got 24mpg here with the top down. The fun roads were quite fun indeed, with the car behaving well around windy sections but absolutely gobbling up the straights. I really enjoyed hearing the sound of the engine at WOT bouncing off the adjacent boulder walls as I zigzagged along the waterside. Later on I drove along the side of two fairly large lakes at a pretty tasty clip. The great thing about Bellingham is that there are so many long, gorgeous roads with NOBODY on them. You can pour on the speed without feeling like an asshole.
All in all I'm really happy with the car. Cruising is enjoyable, passing is effortless, and when the opportunity arises, I can drive it as hard as I please. It gets crummy fuel economy around town, but as I found out, top gear gives it legs for longer distance trips. Putting the top up for the chilly return trip got me 29mpg on the 70mph freeway ride home. Not bad at all!
Here's a neat panorama I took, while I'm at it. :P

That's a beautiful area! I want to go.
It's a really nice place that isn't all filled out with yuppies (yet). It's a college and retirement houses with a good selection of houses from low end to high end. And the high end isn't all that expensive, all things considered. I've seen newer houses perched on *solid* *stone* (note: solid, will not erode) bluffs that have 180 degree panoramic views of the forested San Juans and sell for a million or less.
The lakes are also a good deal it seems. There are some really good houses that are directly on the waterfront and have their own docks that sell for $600k.
Too bad the weather is really crap in the winter, and there isn't much of an industry there. :P
That's why it's cheap.
Retirees don't give a shit. It keeps getting listed on these "best place to retire for 201X!" top-10 lists and retirees just keep pouring in.

Got my 30k service and detail done at Kirkland Infiniti. $961! And I got the cheapest service package too! Jesus. Car does look good all waxed and polished though. Also got the AT reprogrammed (a big improvement) and they solved most of the interior squeak/rattle issues as each had a TSB save for the the squeaky console ("yes, we get that complaint unfortunately that's just how these car are").
I'm curious about the AT reprogramming. I have felt that shifting "surge" under low speed/low throttle conditions.
I bet my car is ten times as squeakier as yours. ;)

Why the hell would you get a dealer to do the detail job? It's so much cheaper to get it done elsewhere and it would be as good or better. $350 got me an interior and exterior detail and a wax.

The TB I found was ITB12-027; applies only to 2010 - 2010 G37 though. Perhaps there is an analogous TSB for the 2009. Made a big difference.
My tires are near the wear bars so that contributes to the interior issues (rougher ride) too I imagine. The 2012 G37x loaner had only 5k miles and had a noticeably smoother and quieter ride (same exact tires, just ~25k fewer miles).

There is no TSB for the transmission in the 2009. My dealer looked it up the last time I was in.

I'm wondering why he'd go to a dealership for a "service" in the first place. If the car ain't broke, what's the point in fixing it? VW used to notify me of a new "service" that cost almost $1,000 like every month. Never bothered with it.
I can see if it's complimentary within warranty, or something like that. Otherwise I'd rather save my money for when something actually needs to be repaired.

If I owned a G, it'd be the same story as it is now. I do the maintenance on my car to save money and have a nice afternoon working in the car. No harm in that. There's also no harm in going to the dealer to get this service done. He can afford it, so he did it. Great.

It's still a lot of money for a basic service on a Nissan. The only time I ever paid that much out on my Volkswagen was when something went wrong. No scheduled maintenance was even close to that, let alone a relatively simple 30K mile service. 30K is still basically brand new. Oil change, top up fluids, rotate tires, visual inspection...what else could it be?
Air filters, maybe a transmission flush. I don't know. I agree, he spent a lot, but obviously thought it was worth it to him for the peace of mind.

Completely understand that; I got all my service done at a dealer and will likely continue to do so for that very reason.
This was an Howell on the service writer's part. They get commission on what they 'sell'.

I've done it, but it's easy to fuck your shoulder up. My friend usually gets out to put his up, I believe.
I just couldn't do it the first few times- I would twist so my back was against the trunk and use both hands overhead- but that looks dumb.

I've driven both an FX35 and a Z and still wasn't a fan, though the G is a much nicer car than both of those. The FX is an objective piece of shit.
The 3.7 has an improved sound over the 3.5.
You didn't like the FX? Hmm, we test drove one while shopping around for wagons/SUVs and I thought it wasn't bad, just too thirsty is all.

This was a 2006 model I think. The newer ones are probably a lot better. In addition to what I can only assume is an unbelievable design flaw that made the instrument cluster reflect off of the windshield at night, it had a crap ride, bad steering, and terrible interior quality.
FX blows, way too small for an SUV/wagon

Inexplicably, I still want an EX for some reason. I'd love an EX with a manual.
I really like the swoopy fender thing (that is, as seen from the driver seat) Infiniti is into these days. I was at the dealership today and sat in pretty much all the cars. I like it.
The FX with the ~400 hp N/A 5.0L V8 has got to be a hoot. Sure it sucks as a "wagon" or "SUV" because it's a cross between a Z and G in raised AWD guise. Kinda goofy but it's been moderately successful.

Infiniti has yet to confirm any details about the next-generation G, but the car is expected to switch from Nissan's FM platform to a new rear-wheel drive architecture sourced from Mercedes-Benz. The G will also rely of Mercedes-Benz for engines, including a new entry-level turbocharged four-cylinder and a high-performance twin-turbocharged V6 for Infiniti's range-topping IPL models.

Fbppthththhh.
Eventually we're going to be buying all our cars, SUVs, and pickup trucks based on the same 5000lb GM-Renault-Mercedes Theta Gamma II Flexible Global Platform.
I predict by the year 2047, all new vehicles will be built on the same platform.
I'll believe it when I see it.
That's communism and communism never works. Cars will devolve into one-off platforms individually constructed by individualistic independent individuals in their free sovereign utopia while the leeches of society can ride their socialist AIDS-infested buses to the breadlines in the pits of their own self-created hells.

It's still odd to collaborate with a competitor to create cars that will then compete against each other in the marketplace. I know Infiniti is relatively insignificant because they only sell 5 cars a year in the rest of the world, but still.

The SI6 engine in your Land Rover is an all-Volvo designed unit (Yamaha built the Volvo V8, not your engine) and is an evolution of Volvo's B6304 (AKA Volvo modular) engine which has been in production since 1990. The SI6 is built at Ford's engine plant in Bridgend, Wales. If you lived in Europe, you could have bought your car with a 2.2 litre turbodiesel made by Peugeot-Citroen.
The Japanese transmission company you've never heard of is Aisin AW and is partially owned by Toyota. Both Toyota and Lexus use Aisin transmissions, if that makes you feel any better!

I definitely got the Yamaha connection confused. I always thought they helped Volvo with the I6, but it was the V8 used in the the XC90, correct? I'm thinking this was also adapted to be Yamaha's 300HP (maybe 350HP, too?) marine outboard engine.
Ahh, and I wish I could've gotten the LR2 with the diesel! The people on the British LR forums report MPG in the high 30s to 40.

I don't know if the Volvo B8444S V8 engine (or any variants of same) were used in marine applications, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were. Contrary to popular myth, the B8444S is an in-house Volvo design and, although built for Volvo by Yamaha, is NOT related to the Yamaha built Ford Taurus SHO V8.
In addition to the Volvo S80 and XC90, a twin turbo variant of the Volvo V8444S V8 powered the Noble M600 supercar!

Mine are every 10,000 miles, so once-ish a year. I don't think that's too big of an inconvenience. And in my case, it gives me a reason to travel and visit my brother.
But seriously...a car is (typically) the second-largest investment you make besides a house. Do people not also keep their houses updated and operating? You replace air filters, bulbs, and other basic things in your house more often than you would on a car, but nobody really seems to bitch about that. Then, maybe a few years go by and you have to spend $2300 on a new furnace. No questions asked, you do it. But ask someone to spend $2300 for a new this-or-that for their car and it's "fuck no! I bought this thing for $30,000 6 years ago and I shouldn't have to pay to keep it running as good as it did when I bought it!"
I don't understand why people expect to buy a car and have it run perfectly for 200,000 miles with no paid maintenance. The only thing that works perfectly all of the time for its entire existence is...nothing.
And do people often not pay more for their house than it was worth when they moved in? I think that's what a mortgage is.

The difference is that heating filters are easy to pop out and pop in. Cars are far less DIY friendly these days, and we all know whenever you go to a mechanic (especially if it's a dealer) you're going to be facing a $500 bill accompanied by a diatribe on how you need 100 other repairs that will cost thousands of dollars. There's maintenance, and there's also replacing parts that don't really need to be replaced, and at an outrageous cost to boot.
People don't complain about changing their heating filters because that doesn't involve paying someone $150/hour, not knowing exactly what's being done to your possession, interrupting your life for a day by dropping off a car and then picking it up before a shop closes - all when nothing is even wrong with your car in the first place. Even the annual home heater/AC service costs about $150. Car repairs are one of the most expensive prospects to hit your budget, and people don't have money to spend on semi-unnecessary repairs.

IIRC, most oil change intervals are more like 7500 or more miles these days, and other than a few other fluids and filters, there isn't all that much that needs to be done. You have oil + filter, coolant, trans/transfer/diff/diff (for a 4WD), air filter, plugs and wires, clutch for a manual, brake pads + rotors + fluid, timing belt if you have one, and some checks to make sure there aren't any major leaks or other issues. Most of those things are 30 kmiles, not 7500.

You're just assuming that every time one takes their car to the dealership, the mechanic is gonna say there're 37 things wrong and it's going to cost $987130 to fix. There are such things as "good shops" where they don't do that. There are dealerships where, when getting a scheduled service, they don't push anything on you and you go nicely on your way knowing that your oil has been changed and the car was given a good once-over as per the manufacturer's recommendations.

Oh man, I only saw the front wheels on the car. The rear offset is very unfortunate.

Same here. I just don't get it. It's literally replacing parts that aren't broken, at inflated dealer cost. If something breaks on my car, I'll get it fixed.

Call Land Rover of Monmouth (http://www.landrovermonmouth.com/ (http://www.landrovermonmouth.com/)) and ask them about their $1,400 trailer hitch, $187 windshield wipers or $150 oil change and get back to me...
I should have said Hyundai dealer prices are pretty good.

There are certainly good shops. They're just not located on the premises of dealerships.
Nah, but for real, I think this is a symptom most likely to crop up at "premium" dealerships. They think their customers are a bunch of millionaires who will just pay anything. Maybe they're right, I dunno. The Dodge dealership where my mother brought old Durango for service was fine - not pushy, pretty good service overall.
The Saab dealership was an utter disaster. The VW dealership was the KING of finding a million things wrong with your car and offering to fix them for outrageous amount of money. The Land Rover dealership (while I haven't needed any repairs on that car yet, and wouldn't take it there anyway) already outright lied to me on the phone about what was required to install an OEM trailer hitch (I checked with three dealers) and told me their OEM windshield wipers cost $180.

Yeah, I can turn the wheel back and forth so fast it produces smoke.
What does one do to fix the offset? I don't think it's a heuge issue in person (yes it does jump out at that angle), but what type of modifications would be required?

Yeah, I'd be careful with all that as no telling what changing track will do to the stability control programming...

Yes and no. The car is RWD until it detects slippage and then it will send any variable from 1% to 50% to the front wheels.

Engineered on the Silicon Plantation!
It works great, as good as the OEM BT audio in the TSX. My phone connects to the car's BT telephony and the A2DP of the Bluetrip simultaneously (by way of the AUX input). If I receive a call, the car mutes the AUX and switches to the BT call mode, and resumes AUX when the call has finished. Totally seamless, and out of sight, inside the center armrest. I'm very happy I didn't have to cobble together a sloppy solution using a separate DC adapter, that would've made a total fustercluck out of my center console.

LR2 does the same... mutes AUX (or whatever else) to switch to an incoming call, and then reverts to whatever was playing. I don't have A2DP, but my mom's car does, and the one annoyance I've experienced while driving it is that it defaults to BT audio mode even when I have my iPhone hooked up wired, which would give me superior audio quality. No way to change it unless I mess with it a lot and get it to switch to wired mode.
Still, wish my year LR2 had A2DP.
Sixty bucks, and you can have it too.

Totally worth it. I can finally listen to Radiolab again. I am so happy I found this.
I  Radiolab. Blasting it in my garage while working on things and having a few beers is one of my favorite things to do.
I found the A2DP had better quality than the hardwire USB connection (which sounded pretty crappy to my untrained ears) in the Mustang
The limiting factor is my Bose crap, not the lack of a hardwired connection. :banghead:
Can you access any sort of hidden eq settings?

IIRC it became standard in 2010+ models.
Wait, so that adapter is if you have an aux input but no A2DP? So you connect the adapter to the aux input and then can use Bluetooth from your phone on your stereo?
I kept thinking it was the other way around... if you had no aux input but had bluetooth so that adapter would connect to your car stereo and then you connected an ipod to the aux input of the adapter.
Makes sense. Pretty cool device.

I don't think I'd like to put music on my phone though. The touch screen is too hard to use while driving. I like having the physical buttons on my iPod so I can quickly press the forward/back buttons while driving and it fits perfectly in front of my shifter (my phone does not). I think I'd really like that A2DP device for maps though. Trying to hear turn by turn directions through the phone speaker is pretty shitty.

I have to say this is the first Bose system in a car that I am actually somewhat impressed with. Not nearly as good as the system I put in the Explorer or in my old Focus, but it's pretty good for a stock system.
If you turn off the Driver's Audio Stage option in the Bose system in our cars, I think it sounds a lot better.

So why is my iPod volume noticeably lower than radio or CD volume? Gain loss via the iPod interface? (It's the wired connection - no BT audio streaming). I'd like to upgrade the speakers and amps but I've been spending a lot of money lately...

I believe it's because you're not using the line out on your iPod. The headphone jack is a lower voltage than line out and will be quieter.

You can't without major modifications. Bose speakers are all unique sizes and nobody else makes anything that fits.

It's a DSP setting that is supposed to optimize the sound image for the driver. I think it makes the sound harsher. It comes with the Bose system, and it should be in the menus somewhere under the audio settings.

It is. Driver sound stage is on almost all aftermarket stereos too and it always sounds bad.
Umm, I have "Bose AudioPilot". Is that it?
I turned it off but my talkie podcasts just sound the same. I need to test it with music.
I'm listening to this, good stuff: http://www.danagould.com/podcastdetail.php?s=poll-to-pole (http://www.danagould.com/podcastdetail.php?s=poll-to-pole)
I check, it's under settings. Click the settings button, then audio, then scroll down and it should be listed as "Driver's Audio Stage." Not sure what Bose AudioPilot is; maybe it's only in the convertible? And if you don't have the Driver's Audio Stage thing, maybe that's another difference between sedan and convertible.
My old headunit has AudioPilot. I believe it's supposed to increase the volume as you drive faster. It didn't do a goddamned thing.

I'm actually using the USB cable used to connect iStuff to the PC (not using the headphone jack).
I have an iPhone5 (3GS had the same issue). It's not hugely noticeable - still sounds good just that I'd say max volume is probably only 70% of what it is via radio and CD.

Yeah yours had an amp. My car didn't have an amp or the Bose speakers. The Bose headunit needs to be amped but it was trying to drive the speakers unamped.
Huh? Spam?
Rear seats came in handy this summer. We had a couple guests over for a week and they were short enough to comfortably ride in the back. We took my grandma to dinner last night with the top down too. I made sure we cruised around the retirement community nice and slow so she could wave at all her jelly bridgeclub friends. ;)
I'm still really enjoying the car. My only major gripe is that my calipers seem to be getting rocks stuck in them pretty easily. I periodically get a nasty metal on metal grind whose interval seems to be directly tied to the wheel speed. This is more minor, but I want to get some luggage that is fitted for the subfloor in the trunk. We've had to use the backseat for storage during our top-down weekend trips because none of our suitcases will fit in it.
dufflebag?
Dufflebags are tricky because you can easily exceed the allowable dimensions if you're not careful. I want the luggage equivalent of a flat rate box: if it fits, it ships.
