Title: PICS! New Cadillac Escalade for 2015
Post by: Atomic on September 14, 2013, 06:45:33 PM
PICS ADDED: October 7, 2013 (Scroll to Monday, 09/07/2013, and below date for BEST SHOTS so far)

I was thinking GM could pull off an official unveiling of its all new 2015 Cadillac Escalade -- certainly deserving of its very own thread over its Chevy and GMC siblings -- without any leaks... BUT...

2015-MY Cadillac Escalade Interior Captured by Left Lane News

...You get a fairly good feel for the interior of the MY15 Escalade from the spy pic, above. Below, is the "official" glimpse we have seen what seems like eons ago. I will NOT add the zillions of Photoshopped images out there following the release of the pictorials of Cadillac's lesser brethren. Some are horrible while I think others might have nailed it.

This is a general response to this as well as the thread you have on the other new GM trucks and suv's.

I'm having a hard time recognizing a design language with the new(and to a degree, the previous) GM's. Maybe it's just not a segment I pay much attention too.

The exterior/interior and just the general design language seems to be "a bit of this and a bit of that". I just don't get the vibe of "that's a GM" when I look at these designs.

Maybe that's just me. Good or bad, the older vehicles(a few gens ago) had a distinct and corporate wide image that carried from model to model. I'm not seeing that anymore.

For whatever it's worth... Here's yet another "teaser" photo of Cadillac's next Escalade due in early 2014 as a MY15 vehicle. At least (whatever we are looking at, whether from inside or out), the materials appears to be of high grade and nothing (part specific) I have seen thus far on any 2015-MY Chevrolet or GMC SUV. Thoughts anyone?

MY15 Cadillac Escalade Exterior, Above

(CarScoops) Big SUVs may not be as popular as they used to be back in the 1990s and 2000s, mostly because of politically correct notions, but the market is surely there and General Motors wants a large chunk of it with a trifecta of related models from its Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac brands.

After the unveiling of the  2015 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, and 2015 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL full-size SUVs, it's time for the most luxurious edition of the group, the new 2015 Cadillac Escalade, which is scheduled for an introduction today.

These snapshots come courtesy of the manufacturer's promotional video that we discovered on AOL and their auto industry obsessive website, Autoblog.com's channel.

The images provide a full (albeit a bit grainy, despite our photo editing efforts) picture of the exterior of the new 2015 Escalade, which is exactly what we predicted and most of you expected it to be: an "Art and Science" interpretation of the Chevrolet and GMC versions of the trucks - probably more closer to the upscale GMC Yukon Denali, with most differences concentrated on the more chiseled front and rear ends, and body trims.

The interior, which has already been previewed by GM, is more unique, luxurious and elegant, not only from the previous model, but from its GMC and Chevrolet siblings as well. The swoopy dashboard mimics the design language of the ATS, the CTS, and the XTS, but it does keep the classic, protruding transmission lever on the steering column.

Under the sheetmetal, you'll find a traditional body-on-frame architecture with engine choices to include V8 powerplants – we'll know more details about that later on today.

Interior kicks ass. Dare I say it looks even better than the '14 RR:

Range looks cleaner. Caddy looks more engaging and better "flowing" so to speak.

Those taillights look terrible.

Cadillac: We need to so something to make this new Escalade look different than its siblings.

5 Days Later...

Cadillac: LET'S GIVE IT THE LIGHTS FROM A VOLVO 850.

Vertical taillights that are as tall as possible are a long-running Cadillac styling cue. They just decided the Escalade's could go higher than on a sedan, as with the CTS wagon.

in the gm world i think predominantly brown interiors should be a buick thing speckled with good quality fake wood except for the steering wheel which should have real wood.  cadillac should stick with black/grey/white for the plastic and leather surfaces speckled with real wood.

brown interiors strike me as warm and log cabin.  burberry.  cadillac is more edgy and high end south beach hotel.  armani.

i want to relax in a buick.  i want to party in a cadillac.  tuxedos aren't brown for a reason.

The brown leather is just a little too brown. Agree that the tail lights are weird. Otherwise looks really good imo.

Maybe it's just me, but at NYIAS....I absolutely hated the new interiors of the Cadillacs. The dash design is bizzare and the touch screen is weird as well. It just wasnt intuitive and seems like you'd be quite distracted. I also didnt think the interior was anything special.

I also think the escalade is somewhat ridiculous with all the chrome and shit. You might as well save some mony and buy a suburban, which is essentially the same thing.

LOL

Yeah the rear lights are bizzare.

Give me a range rover anyday. Probably more expensive but id buy a used one if I had to stay at the escalade price range.

For better or worse, I think the MY15 Cadillac's exterior (at least from its profile) looks far more like its Chevrolet and GMC sport utility vehicle (SUV) brethren than all but the first generation Caddy Escalade...

Well except for Cadillac Escalade Generation I when it was a near clone to the lesser Chevy/GMC variants on the very same platform...

BUT, the front and rear facia are mighty unique to Cadillac for 2015 and right inline with the rest of the modern day Cadillac lineup for 2014, '15 and what we can see of the near future in GM's luxury brand's recently revealed concept cars, i.e., Elmiraj!

Not a fan of CUE!! A huge disappointment and a deal breaker for me. The all new 2014 CTS sedan is getting some good press and I hope the car does well, but unless Cadillac significantly redesigned the CUE system for MY14, it will hurt GM in the same way Ford and Lincoln's technical wizardry has overwhelmed many non tech type owners, IMHO. Even car fanatics dislike CUE and the odd system  FMC put into its new, otherwise snazzy and quite tempting 2014 and '15 Lincoln MKZ and MKZ Hybrid.

Wow, I'm impressed.

I live in Manhattan, and pretty much every day walk by places with black Escalades sitting at the curb, the motor rumbling, keeping the a/c or heater running with a driver inside, waiting for a client. It's a totally wasteful vehicle from start to finish, but they have taken the place of stretch limousines, which one almost never sees anymore. And I have to admit, they're kind of cool-looking.

This new design is going to look even better. I'm relieved they didn't screw up this vehicle.

This, in black, sitting outside of a nightclub, will be impressive.

I love the interior.

Last year, when I flew into LAX and had a luxury car reserved (I was hoping for a CTS, a car I like a lot), I was told there were no luxury cars available, but I could have an upgrade to an Escalade.

I went to customer service and traded the Escalade for a Mercedes GL450. It was a very, very nice ride, but now that I've had it, if the choice came up to drive the new Escalade, I would likely go for it. I don't want to own a vehicle this large (that goes for the GL as well), but tooling around for a few days would be fun.

Is that the EXT or whatever model?  Like a long one?  Or is that how they're going to look in base model form.  The front looks good, but that profile photo.  It looks enormous and not well thought out.  It looks like a shipping container bolted to the bed of a pickup truck.

It's not the worst looking truck in the world (and it never has been), but there's no way I'd choose one over a Range Rover Sport.

The top one is the regular-length Tahoe-based Escalade and the second one is the Suburban-based Escalade ESV. The easiest way to tell the difference is whether the rear door touches the wheel well.

definitely true.  i see a lot of these.

i'd take it over most of the competitors in this price range that have 3 rows.  over the audi q7, lexus land cruiser equivalent, infiniti q56, and lincoln navigator.  i'd take the merc g class over the cadillac.  the lexus land cruiser equivalent is probably engineering wise a much better suv but it's very old in the tooth and no one takes these cars offroading outside of the middle east.

Im not feeling this. I like the Range.

I wish there were more SUVs... honestly like the X6. These boxy things are boring as fuck and most folks buying these things don't need all the cargo room or passenger van seating capacity. Would be nice to see some alternatives, since SUVs are ubiquitous anyway.

- the X6 looks horrible

I agree; the X6 is one of the most hideous cars on the road and the ZDX is right up there with it.

I wish there were more SUVs... honestly like the X6. These boxy things are boring as fuck and most folks buying these things don't need all the cargo room or passenger van seating capacity. Would be nice to see some alternatives, since SUVs are ubiquitous anyway.
They sell the SRX! And if you need something a lil larger the other divisions have plenty of alternatives.

the lexus land cruiser equivalent is probably engineering wise a much better suv but it's very old in the tooth and no one takes these cars offroading outside of the middle east.
I doubt it! Like you said it's long in the tooth and this SUV (GMC and Chevy) should be better in damn near every way.

- the X6 looks horrible

- they've only sold like two units

- ZDX was similar in concept, and it got slammed
Meh. These look boring, and they are selling enough X6s to make an X4. ZDX was slammed because it was ugly. I get that there is a market for these trucks, but with SUVs' ubiquity I think there is room for interesting looking luxury SUVs too.

What the new Escalade needs is a coupe version. Not every rapper travels with his homies, dawg!  :ohyeah:

So here's my vision of what an Escalade coupe could look like. Are you reading this, GM? And while you're at it, throw in a massive gas-guzzling V16 engine because a 6.0-L V8 is just lethargic and embarrassing.

Isn't the whole point of a coupe to lower the roofline and be able to create more of a fast back rear.  Makes the car look faster and more curvaceous.  Doesn't do anything for an SUV.

Wait, you're complaining that there aren't enough round-ish looking SUVs out there today?  :nutty:

There were lots of two door SUVs in the late 80's-mid 90's.

The Explorer was late to the party. By the time it came out in 1990 all of its competitors offered four doors.

You're rite but I was commenting on SUVs that were out before the Explorer debut. The S10 Blazer didn't get 4 doors till '91, The Pathfinder got 4 doors in '90 and The 4Runner got four doors in '89.

True..but I feel like during the '90s it was kind of positioned as a luxury alternative to the Suburban. Don't think that was true earlier.

At some point in my life (probably 8-9), I really wanted a 2-door red 2nd gen. Shows what I knew.

FYI it wasn't sold in Canada, Ed. Probably why you didn't know it existed.

Same with the Honda Passport and Acura SLX, which were rebadged Isuzu Rodeos and Troopers respectively.

Not really. It was positioned pretty much exactly the same as it was before: the shorter, 2-door version of the Suburban. It wasn't quite as expressedly 'sporty' though, being that it didn't have a removable top anymore.

Think of it this way: Most earlier SUVs were based on standard cab pickups, which always had two doors. Four door pickups never really got popular until the SUV thing was an established segment.
