Saying hello to its elder Bavarian cousins last night @ the office parking lot.....

We ended up getting this GT4, last allocation for Mexico after the original buyer who ordered it backed out at the last minute. It's a 4 year lease on which I pay a one third share. Shared with my life long friend and business partner and his brother. I drafted the rules. Basically I get the car every 3rd week and the car must always be available for track days (we are all members of the same track club) independently of when they happen. At the track it would be shared between as many of us as we can show up. Maintenance is divvied 3 ways and if you break it you pay it. I also got a first option to buy it at the end of the lease at 10% below market value because I found the car.
I drove it a bit yesterday between the dealer and the office in hellish rush hour traffic. All I can say is it sounds great and rides a bit less harshly than expected. Definitely not the best way to navigate traffic. It also looks exotic and draws looks like a Ferrari (almost). In a completely different league from my cars which are only noticed by weird men like myself.
We'll go on a weekend mountain drive. I'll have more to say then. I'll bring along one of my cars.
I am happy but it's a very different feeling than my other cars that I bought outright. This makes all the sense in the world financially but does feel a bit weird to be honest.
Before, when taking delivery....

Woohoooo! Party times at the 'Spins
Cheers
Nice! :ohyeah:
Holy shit!
You officially have the coolest garage and 1/3 here. That is sweet. Your next track day, please slap a GoPro somewhere on that thing and upload a video.
Congrats.
Wowwww. :golfclap:
Even got it in the best color and everything. I"m jealous.
So your collection consists of:
-E46 M3
-E60 M5 (currently broken though )
-1M Coupe
-1/3 of a Cayman GT4
Quite the lineup.
Too many roofs. Kind of nice though, I guess.
Congratulations. :tounge:
Thank you all. On Sunday we'll go on a morning drive nearby and I will post some driving impressions.

E60 M5 and "currently broken" are sort of synonyms.

Was not expecting the follow through. Good work, report back with further impressions.
Is the E46 getting the boot?
Beautiful color.
Wicked. :golfclap:

No. The beauty of this arrangement is that everything can stay as long as the business continues to do reasonably well.

Damn son. Congrats!
Is your wife cool with rolling around in a Mini when you're balling out of control with your whips?
Also, if you need any employees or a chauffer or anything ever, or even a personal detailer, do please let me know.

She says she is. But you know how it is....there is grumbling about how we lack a spacious and reliable family car for highway family travel. And she's not wrong. The MINI is a bit tight (trunk) and the M5 could leave us stranded with a crying baby in the middle of nowhere.
So....given that her birthday is in a month she'll be getting something. And that something has to keep dad from missing the M5 too much while traveling.
Happy wife happy baby happy life happy dad shit is getting expensive fast.
Damn, amazing car. I feel like I must have missed a thread somewhere because I had no idea you were even considering a purchase like this.
So congrats, and can't wait to see some pics from a track day. :ohyeah:

Thanks! I've been blathering about this and a 997.2 on the Car Chat for the past few weeks.
It looked like it wasn't happening but at the last minute it did.

Well, yeah. What'd you think owning 3 1/3 German performance vehicles was gonna be like? Plus the MINI, if you contribute to the purchase/maintenance of that.
Congrats though! It's a brilliant looking car.

I'm glad you finally knocked some sense into your BP.
I'm sure it was hard for him to sell the family burro, and I'm sure you'll have to put your dreams of owning a taco stand on hold, but I think both of you made the right decision.
ETA: Congrats aside, I hope that sweet machine isn't going to waste.
Yes! Welcome to Porsche ownership, have fun paying the parts gods.

Interesting while I was browsing the manuals. There is a separate one for "Cicuit Use". Lots of things are explicitly "forbidden". Like non-Porsche approved pads for example. Lol.
Felicitaciones!

I'd like to extend my usual offer. Free high end detail job. Just drop off friday and pick it up sunday night.

Seems to be a very German thing. For example, VW has its own oil standards as separate from widely used industry standards that American and Japanese cars use.

When my bro bought his Q5, he was needlessly bitchy about getting gas from "Audi Certified" stations.

Very reasonable. About US$60 per car.

So do you pay the cop directly?
Quote from: FlatBlackCaddy on July 24, 2016, 11:10:50 AM
So do you pay the cop directly?
Yes. He had more bargaining power this time because the GT4 is still on a provisional permit. That allowed him to use some obscure law to threaten with having it towed. Otherwise it'd have been the regular - lawful - fine which is paid at a bank later.
So, all joking aside, it was a shakedown. So the cop got 150 bucks (us?) on that stop and he just pocketed it?

120. Yes.
This pretty common down there?
Congratulations on the Porsche! What are you considering for the family car now? Can you get your hands on a 5 series BMW wagon? Either that or BMW X5 is what I'm guessing you're considering.

Dude, that's hilarious. When I saw the picture at the beginning of the thread, I was planning to comment that the car looks really fun, and that you could get yourself into some trouble with it. Then I saw this.
Best of luck with the new wheels. I really like the look of it.
More pics. Back home now. The 1M is every bit as fast at altitude, may even beat it.
But the GT4 feels sportier in every way otherwise.
Can't wait to track them back to back and see what times I manage initially.

I was doing 170kph about 105MPH. I was at the time driving the 1M and we both got busted.
I imagine foreigners would have had to pay double.
Sounds like a policeman could make a pretty comfortable living, thats not even accounting for the organized crime/cartel payoffs.

Federales are paid well and yes these "bonuses" are very low risk/high return. Organized crime collaboration is not that common with these guys. They live well enough to add that risk, even if profitable. Municipal level underpaid cops are much more susceptible to that.

More than 50% above the speed limit.....that's pretty respectable.
I see you were driving the BMW. Who was driving the Porsche? Was it Monika or one of your buddies? I assume you both got clipped? The whole thing is pretty funny. Fun drive at highly illegal speeds in a sweet ride. It doesn't get much better than that. Getting clipped was a minor bump, pretty inconsequential.

Monika stayed because baby. I went out with my fellow co-owners and another friend. One of them was driving it. And yeah, we both got busted. I was behind and really didn't notice the cop until he was right up on my ass with lights flashing.

There's no reason for him to feel guilty, as long as he didn't earn the money dishonestly.

Haha, it's always better to get busted with a buddy. That makes for some good jokes and a good story. There's always been an element of fun in getting busted, at least for me.
