RIP pooprods.

Maybe this will push C7s further down market and into affordable range.  I would absolutely love to get one.

I kinda doubt this will go in the C7.  Probably the supposed new mid-engine Super-Vette.

+1

And the LT4 isn't going anywhere. They just spent a bunch of money to develop it.

I could also see versions landing in some Cadillac models at some point.

So they're going to continue making the C7, then make a new high end, mid engine, DOHC vette along side it? That's not even a corvette then at that point.

No one knows.  One possibility is that "Corvette" becomes a sub-brand, with C7 and its front-engined, relatively affordable descendants being an entry model and then a more exotic, mid-engine supercar to serve as the flagship.  Another is that the Corvette simply moves upmarket with the next generation and they leave the "affordable sports car" role to the Camaro.

I still think Corvette and Escalade should become their own sub brands.

And yea the Camaro is currently giving the Corvette a pretty rough go. They will have to separate the two. If they do the sub brand thing, they could make an affordable C&C model for Joe HELOC, and then make a rip-snorting monster for all the Chris Harris vids and Motor Trend covers. Current Corvette is trying to do both and is getting stretched a little thin

My thoughts from the C7 thread. Basically only makes sense if they are going after the 911 GT2/3 which the auto industry thus far has shunned save for maybe the GT350 and Lexus -F cars. Would be interesting if the ZR1 does - could accelerate the trend of hi-po cars not chasing stats (which takes weight and power and F/I).

If you look further down in the document the Corvette does not show the "LT5" as an option.

To "compete" with $100k+ hard core performance cars these days you need either very light weight or 600+ hp. The former is hard, the latter is easy, and GM already has the 650 hp LT4 cued up, plus let's also not forget GM was getting 505 hp out of a pooprod V8 a dozen years ago (with today's tech, a DOHC V8 would have to be at 600+ hp to best an equivalent pooprod).

A 3,200 lb ZR1 powered by a 600 hp DOHC N/A V8 sounds just a bit too exotic for GM. Not impossible, given GM's recent track record with performance cars, but such a vehicle is super car territory. It would be interesting but I'm gonna guess the "LT5" is vaporware.

This is what I think will happen. And IMHO this is what the C6 ZR1 should have been! A mid engine Ford GT/Ferrari fighter.....
