They really just stuck a skinny tablet up there.

How does android auto and CarPlay work with portrait shaped screens?

It's a nice looking interior, but yeah that screen is really odd and stick up like a sore thumb. There's ample room to turn it sideways and integrate it between smaller vents.

Seems like they panicked after the new RAM came out

Dunno why they flipped when the Aviator has a landscape screen. But for the phone stuff they prob just split the screen in half

This looks disrespectful though, like the tablet is pitching a tent. Not a fan

That tablet looks like an actual Kindle Fire they stuck on the dash

Maybe it is, but now a $3000 option.

I heard they're gonna make a ST too.

I really liked the last gen Explorer I rented a while back. Quiet. Great ride. Looks good. This will sell
well.  I'm sure the police are happy with their new vehicle of choice.

I think it'll be a great vehicle. I'm just disappointed by the direction the automotive world is going in. Glued-on tablets and Explorer STs instead of Focus STs.

The interesting aspect of this is the new CD6 platform, also used on the Lincoln Aviator.  Apparently, it will be used for the next generation Mustang as well.

Also, nice looking SUV.

Probably went to RWD to increase towing capacity. Goddam thing may be a real pain in the ass to work on due to the design of looking like a FWD vehicle. See how little space there is between the back of the front fender well and the front door?

Apparently, it can also be used for FWD sideways engine applications.

So the next Mustang is gonna be a transverse engine FWD crossover? Nice.

Not likely , but even if it is, it'll still sell better than a Camaro.

It went RWD because of Lincoln.  Towing capacity is only like 5600lbs

I was gonna ask the same question, except seriously and about the marque. Why does the Aviator need to be RWD?

And don't act like there haven't been plenty of FWD Lincolns.

Such as the Lincoln Taurus

and the Lincoln Fusion

So it can share a platform with the Rustang?  i.e. Fords only "sedan" going forward.

I'm not sure. Might be too beefy

And yea the 2.3EB is already in the Lincoln MKC. 2.7EB is in the MKX/Nautilus.

Has to be that they can use that drivetrain in more models. I think with modern stability control, there's no longer any dynamic advantage to front wheel drive for 99% of buyers.

Not bad.  Different courses for different horses.  It couldn't quit pull it off at Willow Springs, even with 100+ more bhp.

I dunno about CarPlay, but you can run Android Auto as an app on the phone, and it works just fine in portrait there.

Portrait def makes more sense for infotainment... navigation in particular

Just not like this. They might as well have hung it from the rear view mirror.

That screen is awful.

I'm guessing the 3.0TT is the same one used on the Continental?  I thought that was going to be a Lincoln exclusive engine.

No, I think we have all been inoculated through Tesla. It's the portrait infotainment combined with the stuck on tablet look we were just getting used to..

AA can't scale its output... Doubt it will work in landscape

The Giulia has an extra wide display - Carplay can scale and use the screen space, AA can't so I get a giant AA logo on the right 1/4 of the screen

I had a '92 Explorer. Now there was a ride. It lasted into the 180k range. It was comfortable and a tank.

This? Yuck.

The one thing I remember about old Explorers is they felt like they were made of plastic

No matter the age or condition they always seemed to creak and groan. Really weird
